And why was that? Oh, yes, infamous Yalta conference. The winners turned into losers should our case be considered. That's why I point out to those who believe the history doesn't matter contemporary. Impact of events lasts over decades and often centuries. One makes a wrong decision, it hounds them back.

Yes. Poland had little to do with the decision making at Yalta. Great uncle Stalin has won the custody. How lucky for us.

Here is a story from the Stalinism era from the post war Warsaw: my granny was arrested few days after the child labour. she was exposed to infections in the milice cell and separated from her child. there was allowance for taking 1 baby pack: napkins, clothes after the war. without knowing my granddad and another member of family brought home one baby pack each that day. the same day my gran got arrested . that still having horrors of war fresh in her mind, she has lost her brother in the concentration camp and others close to her were killed or burned alive by the Germans during Warsaw Uprising 1944. For some countries the war has ended , for the others the new nightmare begun.

I agree, and, I think people like Peter are right, just read his English, it is better than some of the "natives" who lived here for generations. I have seen a group of people today who looked like they were heading to a wedding but had terribly mismatched outfits. And these silky expensive dresses together with heavy black cheap boots. Rany Boskie ! They spoke foreign language. I realized I could understand every word.... I felt ashamed... Where did they came from?
they are still human beings whatever country they are from. I for one would not look down on anybody looking for a better life, some of the posts on here are so arrogant.
Are you a good dresser? You do not have to spend fortune to dress well, but that is just my opinion. What do you think?[/QUOTE] I agree, but one persons idea of a good dresser may differ totally to the next persons idea...I might think I look a mllion dollars in a dress I am wearing and another person may think I look like a sack of rags lol!

I'm sorry to hear about all these war horrors. Anyhoo, have a lovely stroll. I'm guessing we're the only participants left on this forum anyway. Do you think it's because we put the rest off by shouting at top of our voices, hahah? Yeah, I've been also giving far too much attention to all this - you know - two Poles won't influence another people's minds & believes anyway - though it was worth trying.

Adriana asked: quote: Do they wear Scottish skirts?
Do you refer to kilts? No no, am taking these are meant for lads anyway In my opinion Scottish lasses just dress more feminine without necessarily getting overly exposed if you know what I mean They seem to know how to choose different parts and make them look stunning although clothes ain't too expensive - you know, a bit of the bohemian flair in it. Though, this might be just me finding them bewitching Lol, I also am a bit crazy about their lovely accent Although, my male friends from Scotland are more critical about them quote: Almighty God, please help me to brake my addiction.

Englishman are sexy too in their own James Bond way... Polish men are great because they can speak Polish and are generally gallant. I also like Indian guys because they have sense of humor. But really as my grandma says , "love in international", and one should really look at the individual. Right, that is the end of my Sunday sermon. God , bless you. quote: Almighty God, please help me to brake my addiction.

quote: Originally posted by tompaine: There is no british culture, it just as much of a fallacy as the grand narrative of the American culture of 'Freedom'. They give emphasis to freedom, they're whole society is defined by it- but it doesn't exist in their actual lives. 'Britishness' what a load of rubbish.
There is such a thing as British Culture, just in the same way there is such a thing as Spainish, Russian and Australian Culture. Its more difficult to discern British Culture because much of what was British is now "global", think of sports such as football, tennis and cricket. Had these remained only particular to the Britain, they would have been seen as British culture .. but they aren't because there popularity has ensured that they are now global. British (multi)culture is beautiful, and though I love many other cultures, its still is an important player in the global multicultural make up of the world. A non-EU migrant once said that Britain should be careful not to loose its culture to the Europe. British culture is subtle and is to found in the unique wit and humour of our conversation. Our admittedly funny attitudes towards drink, and our eccentricities. Then there are the traditions of Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England. It is also to found in the (sadly declining) sense of fair play, or the way we'll often help someone with a heavy bag on the train and our admitted difficultly with dealing with some social situations. More laterly integrated British people, orginating from abroad have made their own British cultures. I recently watched a documentry on the development of Drum and Bass music. And some of the orginal musicians clearly said that "britain has its own culture" that why they invented it, because they weren't happy with playing music from Belgian. Ironically its just another British invented thing to go global. Tom, you need to respect all cultures, you can't not include your own culture in that.
