Hi, i'm a sound engineer/event manager with over 10 years experience running music events, i now specialise in large scale pyro.. i ended up going to t4 because some of the young lads that work for me had two spare tickets, so me and a mate whos a full time sound engineer went for a bit of a jolly..
terrible is all i can say.. i feel really sorry for the thousands of people that went to the event only to be used by channel 4 to get good TV footage.. there was absolutely no consideration of the people that had paid to go to make it a good event for them!
i know it was windy, but come on, the FOH line arrays weren't secured lateraly which meant that when they swang in the wind you got terrible comb filtering which made everything sound terrible, to the point you could hardly hear what was going on.. you were better off moving back and listening through the delay speakers up the beach, or going right to the back and watching on the LED screen.. at least the delay arrays they had attempted to stop them swinging..
and 90% of the sound it was on backing tracks!! you could tell the bands weren't enjoying the event from the comments they made.. they obviously wanted people to have a good event, but i guess they felt let down by the producers of the event..
also, nobody wants to see channel 4 adverts on the big screens! and who cares about what happened at last years event!
the day just didn't flow, there were big gaps with nothing on, then some random adverts on the screen, then nothing, then some random bloke getting people to scream for 30 seconds, then nothing again.. very unprofessional..
if they advertised it as "come and be involved in the filming of T4 on the beach" that would have been fine, but it certainly isn't a one day festival or music concert..
as reverend and the makers said, "don't belive the lies". save your money and goto a proper music event, not a TV filming! or go but just stand on the sea side of the stage and watch for free like hundreds of people did!
I've just finished watching t4 on the beach as I was away for the event, nor would I have attended the event if i were here. And like you said it was more for a tv audiance then a show for the thousands that had attended. Brining rejects from shipwrecked or cast members from holyoaks to not introduce bands but just to stand and jeer the crowds up with "LET ME 'EAR YOU WESTON SUPER MARE" pointless.
And with all the backstage gossip with bands like Mcfly and the Hossiers which have been interviewed about 3 times during the entire show. And the drivel that came out of the mouth of Alexa "I cant be asked, but im getting paid to be as dull as i can" Chung. Walking around and brining absolouty nothing to t4 on the beach. I found that my hand was constantly on the fast forward button.
And the compition with the cast of E'enders and H'oaks why could'nt they have brought it to the stage so that the people that payed out on a ticket could join in on the fun rather then watching from a huge plasma screen.
All in all it was a music gig and that did not disapoint, However the choice of kelly rowland being a headliner act in my eyes could have gone to someone eles.
For music 10 out of 10 general entertainment during the acts for tv audiance 4 out of 10 Surprise guests 3 out of 10. What was the point of having sarah and mike barns from h'oaks.
All in all a bit of a let down im glad i never saw it live.
indeed, although if you were there you'd be better off putting your mp3 player on and listening to the same tracks at a decent quality and volume ;-)
from purely a professional point of view, very disappointing.. even small things that could have been fixed like the speakers, or the continuity would have made so much difference.. why not get a DJ or presenter to host the whole event rather than having empty sections or using old footage.. although i guess the gaps were for the presenters backstage todo interviews and stuff without being disturbed by noise.. what a joke..
Im sorry you guys feel that way.. from a professional point of view it might not have been upto standards. but in terms of a day out.. it was brillient.. i really enjoyed myself.. the only dissapointment was kelly rowland headlining.. that was a BIG BIG mistake.

Stop thinking about your job! It was an event where you are meant to have fun, like nobody else complained about it. IT WAS AMAZING. if you think your so good, you try and do it next time.
i enjoyed myself but i have to agree, it defo wasnt how i expected it to be, with the huge gaps, and making us scream just so it looked better than it was, if it really was amazing people would be jumping and screaming like that all the time, people wouldn't need to ask! Also suprised by kelly rowland headlining, thought others were more deserving, and the lip syncing was disappointing too!
the thing i found ridiculous was trying to get up the scaffold steps(from the beach to the road) to look around the top part. it took forever just to move. they should have one side up & one side down but all the crowd control could do was just to stand there doing nothing. it was the same for the ramp. i did enjoy t4 but they should organise it better.

i waited 3 hours to catch the bus back
they assumed that 4,000 people could get through the gate in an hour...what
so i missed the hoosiers, the pigeon detectives and the feeling!!
i was soo freeking angry
what time did u leave to get to the beach?
i was pretty far back in the origional queue before the gates opened.. and well i was in half hour maybe 45 minutes before any bands played..
exiting was terribly organised.. we left one of the top gates and because the road was cut off we had to go back inside to go out a gate at the bottom which was at a standstill because of all the people waiting for a bus.
my time at the actual event was amazing and i will defo be coming back next year. but the sound was defo an issue and we could barely hear alphabeat from where we were stood, yet we were deafened by the voloume of the ting tings when they came on.
and the park & ride and the rest of the traffic off the motorway into weston s mare was a JOKE, we were being directed into the park and ride lane but we just drove off into the opposite direction thank god we found a parking spot along the front without all the hassle of waiting for the park & ride bus, we even saw people walking along the side of a motorway junction trying to find their way to the park & ride area!
hi. i feel the event could of being better organised yes, but isnt this always the case things improve each year. the sound was a problem. .when you was stood at the music stage and could still here the main stage etc. .that could of being mended etc. for us it was a fun time but ourselves will be organising it better next year! the park and ride put a damper on the day. it was only cheap so it was better than expected even if we missed the first hour and half!!
