Well done to Turbo lots of hard work, pity you couldn't get the rest of the team to pressurise the full tank ;-)

Dark Riders, excellent build, pity you didn't have the speed.

Indeed it does make a nice change to have two machines that actually worked, certainly equal enough to have to wait for the final call by Robert.

What I liked about the Dark Riders is that every time you saw them they were all hard at work each playing a solid role as a complete team, they made decisions and stuck to them. It was a great shame that there was the 'hiccup' with the length of the extra axle to act as a 4x4 split, all these years and we have never seen that idea in practice.

I have to admit that my money was on the DR's until the RR managed to get that block into the fork-lift, and when that simple drive coupling came together it was in the bag.

lets see how they deal with Woof Justice next week.

in thought the dark riders had it in the bag but it just shows you.
well done rusty regiment but it took a bit of arse kicking from turbo to get you moving.
i personley think it was a bit longer than a 10 hour build

Even then the only building shown, other then Turbo, was gas axing the forklift in half.

Champions without actually contributing much, I hate to say it but it's probably best that Scrapheap finishes.

Hi everyone

This forum as being pointed out to me by Cheq.
Who is concerned that we are being slated by a couple of you.
For those of you that have been on SH you will know that RDF will promote the program as they see fit, this may not always be as it happened.
Firstly who are the Rusties
Capt’n Bob (myself Bob the Hammer) mechanic/ auto electrics Love SH and asked some mates to join me in the team.
Mario (Maz or the prince of darkness) Maz is just Maz and will put his hand to anything.
Paul (capt’n fantastic) welder and all round engineer.
Andy (Cheq) mad boffin and hands on light/medium engineer (replacement for Maz)

So what is the problem. None
Our plan was always to follow KISS and to work smart not hard.
Did it work hmmmm.

Speed boat challenge: JF our expert was a mine of info and we followed his plan because it suited our plan. However being friends with Kitten we only saw him half the time, our problems may have started with me stopping the build because my Paul was being sick with dehydration and being unable to get water to him except in v/small plastic cups, they had to send out runner to the shops to get bottled water and the med team forced Paul to have a break, Maz was also unwell and was in Hospital for a few weeks just days after the test, on top of that Maz had a phone call telling him a mate of his had died the day before in an accident.
Why did these guys carry on? Because they are mates and team players.
RDF gave us back the hour we stopped as good will, but we may have upset them.
Ps we even tried to help the other team over a problem they had.

Diving challenge: Bill our expert (what a great guy)again his plan suited our style.
What is not shown is the amount of equipment before we got items which would be safe for a diver, and the helmet was burnt for hours to remove harmful gas and yes the detail in the helmet to keep our diver safe overwhelming (not good TV) we also found and gave the SM the blocks they were looking for (not shown)
Crezz : robbed , I bet the rescuers felt robbed (is about being first across the line or not, make yer mind up)

Tug Challenge: Turbo our expert hmm! Lot to say and as for shouting, no change for us (slow start, leading to a frantic finish the same as all our builds)
Didn’t show stripping the clutch or freeing the starter motor, and turbo wanted to fit the gearbox spindle on to the fork truck drive with only two spines touching, we had words and he performed one of the best welds I’ve seen. Turbo also had a go at Paul for taking his time welding the box section on but Paul wanted to make sure it stayed put and I’m glad he did because the whole chassis twisted and the engine hit the chassis where I was sitting any less welding and it would have broke away.
Dark riders had a chance to test their machine but we were not?.

I’m not sure why RDF gave us a hard time on TV but we proved that guys of a certain age and size can win using skill and experience.
I would like to thank all my team and experts,
We feel honoured to win the trophy and not only be apart of the ten teams who are named on it but also the teams that did not get through.

I think that is the problem, your builds were easy, yes you won but Scrapheap is more about the inventive approach and team work.

They would have picked up on what you were doing and enhanced it, from what I remember of the final the only person shown doing anything was your gas axing, I'm sure you did more then stand about with your hands in your pockets but if you did why was it not shown ?

You were lucky Richard didn't do to you want he did to the Cat-alysts !

But seriously, well done chaps those plane tugs looked like massive builds.

Hey Cheq, loved that little mad dance thing you did lmao!.... and Bob, glad your burned fingers are ok now, well they must be to type that essay!

Well done once again RR and who knows we may meet again????

I just wish the on screen time had as much effort in it as you clearly put into that essay. Viewers do not need to be preached to, they make their own minds up. The essay has helped me understand why my earlier thought were the right ones, despite what looks likely to happen next week.

Respect to any team that wins the top title but it does not mean they are the best. The Cats won the top title but few people actually liked them much.

It is a shame that every episode of every series has that clear element where it seems the makers of the show get together and figure out which are the easiest builds and then give them to the weaker teams. It just happens too often that the weaker teams actually make a pretty good, although simpler to build, machine.

blimey I just realised that have almost written as much as text myself, I've burtnt my own fingers as well now :-)

Hey
Heres a thing a group of people slate my team for a few weeks and when I give my opinion based upon being the only one there, and with out being rude they seem to be upset.

I hinted at my team being at risk and not wanting to play the game, since that time we were given a hard time.
If you think these things build them-selves and we only (quote: gas axed a bit) you need a check up.
If one of you want turbo’s love child I can give you a number,

The only question I asked still stands, who wins the best build or the first across the line.
Im truly sorry cress (we like you guys, your expert was a bit of a ……. Based on what members of your team said at the time.) But if winning was based on the best build then you would have lost against the rescuers, if it 1st across the line then you won and lost by those rules, p/s we did it in three and a half mins.

Where do the cats come into this, someone got beat by them?

As for the next challenge the best team wins as always.

Ho ho

Best of luck to all.
inc future scrapers

Minds are like parachutes, only work when open.
There a few here that will rot in the bag..

Thanks for that Bob, I don't need to watch the grand final now next Sunday.

Opps. Someone seems upset. However from what you said it seems as though you will be the last ever champions of champions. I rest my case, the best team will LOOSE !

They don't build themselves but some may need a little help, not that they would ever admit it.

If you knew your Scrapheap history you would know that Richard was an expert for the Cats, and you would know how silly he made them look.

Channel 4 and RDF make money by selling advertising. Many viewers of Scrapheap Challenge aren't completely technical or at the very least Channel 4 and RDF believe this to be the case. They are producing a television show which will have broad appeal and is almost certainly "entertainment" and not "documentary".

Decisions intended to make the most people possible watch the show dictate what goes into an episode. The gas axe looks impressive with fire, glowing metal, sparks etc. Vast amounts of the show are engineering for dummies, recaps, what's coming up, intros by the presenters. The thing is that people who make television for a living, based on their experience thinks this makes the show better and more profitable than including all the technical stuff and boring things that had to get done.

Magically, each week, suitable components that help you build the expert's vision of their solution to the problem happen to be found on the heap. Coincidence? I'm willing to assume they aren't easy to find and you do have to scavenge for them, but if you go with your experts suggestion, everything you need is out there (albeit possibly broken/damaged and needing fixing before you can use it). If you decide to go it alone, you are having to hope that everything you need is there. Because you are probably being given a solution, sometimes you're just going to get the flakier solution and it might come down to luck (or dumb luck) whether you win or not.

It's all entertainment for bragging rights at the end of the day. You've been selected to take part in a unique experience you can't really buy and you should make the most of whatever you can from it. You don't have to like losing, but by just getting on the show, you're already a winner.
