Heya guys,

Okay so in this weeks issue of OK! there was an interview with Shipwreckeds very own Char and Diva- in case you havent already guessed what Im on about!! I had no idea the food was as bad on Hawk Island as the girls described it to be. Char said that when they got cuts they wouldnt heal because their immune systems were so low in protein. There was this little picture in the corner of them on the island an you can see Chars rib cage, I didnt realise she was so thin. But judging by the other pictures in the photo shoot that they did they look much better and looked really nice!
So I advise anyone to buy this weeks OK! magazine to see for yourselfs!! Lol Laugh

race, if you eat 3 pigs in 3 months you have more than enough protein to last you more than that length of time. Besides, there is an abundance and variety of sea food and crustaceans to add more proteins to ones diet. Natives of Cook islands are not big on animal proteins any way. If they had spent less time in beautifying their island and more time in providing food for themselves they would have been more than alright. This overwhelming urge to build a palatial huts is unnecessary. Adam and Eve looked after their stomachs first, even to the extent of eating the forbidden fruit, before seeking shelter. That was why I questioned Nick's knowledge and experience as a survival expert

The only problem of course was the absence of a freezer for the pigs on Hawk Island, so each pig lasted the one sitting & not a prolonged period. Also, look what bcame of Adam & Eve- not a good example for this purpose.

A REAL survival expert would have known to take a freezer with him. Big Grin

The got chatting to a talking snake, went foraging for food, got slung off their land, then begat the entire human race. Now that would have made a good 3rd Island Episode!

i have a few points to say about the discussion on here:

1. to go from a typically everyday diet (at least 1 type of meat a day, normally 2) to having 3 pigs in 3 months would hit your body hard!!!
2. the natives of cook island survive like that because they've never had our type of diet (see 1.)
3. the whole adam and eve and the forbidden fruit thing had nothing to do with a desire for food, it was an egotistical desire for the knowledge of the world which god was supposedly keeping from them, the snake (although never actually called one, it merely says it slithered on its belly i believe) said they would basically become like gods if they ate from the tree, and if you believe milton's paradise lost it was all eve's fault (i dont take that viewpoint though).

hopefully that wasn't too theological

Exactly. And you never hear mention of 3 pigs in the Garden of Eden either (although they may be there now). It was just an old serpent type thing.

Char only said that their immune systems were down. Nothing to do with lack of protein. Just not having enough to eat combined with poor hygiene. Unlike the natives of the Cook Islands their bodies weren't designed to tolerate the conditions.

Poor things....you never head of smoked fish and meat. Done properly they would last you for years never mind months. Again, that's where I question Nick's qualification as a survivalexpert because you are thought these things. If you remebre in season one the wreckers on Shark island...lead by John ....discovered the chilli plants. These islands have vegetation that can support life. The very young of palm frond is highly nutritous and can also yield alcohol. Just don't know what survival skills they teach the shipwreckers!

Nick said he needed to do two batches of salt too, so he could have preserved it that way. Perhaps they didn't teach the other islanders anything in order to make Hawk Island a bigger shock?

Exactly. They could have made enough salt to last time a life time, after all they are in the middle of very salty pacific ocean. There was no need to pig themselves out with the pork the way they need......it was just waste.

Any survival expertwho knows his salt knows how bad too much salt is for you, particularly in those hot climates. Water retention is an ugly thing, particularly in that heat. Best eat the 3 little pigs asap in the absence of a freezer. Particularly as there was a big bad wolf on shark island.

lol i love the way this conversattion has gone from an interview in ok magazine to the philosophical world of adam and eve to preserving pigs with salt :P

and also remember - they didnt have 3 pigs in three months, they had about 3 tenths of a pig in three months so it was even less!
