Has any1 applied and if u have, have you received a phone call yet or an email saying you are through?
I really want to know cause I'm still waiting and Ive booked Monday and Tuesday off so I can go.

Yes I did a 3 minute video but I dont think i'm through. Mine was really professional as well.

Shame. Still you can try again can't you? The consolation is that there must be thousands applying and just because yours didn't grab the attention of those selecting does not mean that you aren't better than those who get through. As so often happens it is not always the cream that rises to the top, you will know what I mean when you see those who are selected, you will be able to say, "Well I'm far better than that" and you will mean it. Wink

Saw a few vid clips on last nights show, we've just bought a pretty dated small country hotel and guess what, I'm fanny there ?? not a professional chef or trained cook, but I rekon I can whip up a decent meal or two, with the help of gordons books(altered to suit of course lol) - lets hope so anyway cos its me or no one, unless gordon volunteers to come over and give me some tips

Welcome Tweeds. Good luck in your new venture. It could be well worth writing to Gordon. I think the rule of thumb seems to be KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid, (the stupid does not refer to yourself) The more complicated a dish is the more can go wrong with it, they say that if you overload the palate with different flavours all at the same time then none is truly appreciated. Find the things that the customers like and work on them as signature dishes adding new ones one at a time measuring their success and then getting rid or perfecting accordingly. Once again good luck, I know that it is a very hard business you are in and a lot of very hard work. Smile

Thank you lemondropkid for the welcome, we are really looking forward to the new venture, being originally from yorkshire I intend to add a bit of the west yorks traditional dishes into the menu with an added twist of course. I cant miss out gordons chicken pie though can I , and some of the superb sweets he does, which look really simple and easy to do.
I am no chef but a reasonable decent cook if its not fancy, so the KISS theory suits me fine after all its a country pub/hotel. It needs loads of work on it and the kitchen needs a whole upgrade(I'm sure you would cringe if it were shown to you and the menu just makes you groan - oh no not again!! still if gordon would like to come and give it the once over and work his magic on a small(i mean small lol) scottish country hotel then he is more than welcome, we move in on the 12th july so bring it on lol
