My view is that the majority (the top 20) on the leader board cheat their way on to the board.
There is NOway that you can amass that amount of points with just 3 lifes, what a sad way to get to the top, by CHEATINGbecause at the end of the day you are cheating yourself. Roll Eyes

Once you have done the quiz for a few hours you will realise that the questions are limited even though they are random you quite often get the same question occuring twice or more in a run of 10. It is not cheating it is how the game runs. I had to spend a considerable amount of time at my pc. If you really really want the prize then you have to put in the effort, it is very boring spending the time answering the same questions over and over but like I say if you want the prize then it is worth it. Do you have what it takes to get to the top? Persistance, effort and a will to win is what you need so good luck Wink. BTW Virago how are you?

i know! it seems that the better prize has encouraged people with clearly too much time on their hands to take part....just think- if everyone spent the time at work rather than on the quiz, then they could probably pay for the trip themselves....or even better, do the quiz whilst at work i suppose....that really would be making productive use of one's time....ho hum Big Grin

You must have to be really desperate to spend that amount of time on a quiz, just so that you can win it, to me thats cheating ( win at all costs) your welcome to it. All you are doing is cheating yourself.

I agree entirely with you! How can answering questions and playing the game as it is set up to be played be cheating? I must admit, when I first ever tried the quiz, I couldn't understand how people got such large scores and began to wonder if there was some way people had beaten the system some how, but when you play it for a length of time and you see how it works, you come to increase your scores and eventually you can start to get scores in the hundreds and thousands by playing for ages and hoping it doesn't crash on you (that's the bit where as a player you feel cheated by the quiz!).

So, if the quiz is set up on the website as being a quiz that you can play as many times as you want, then doing this and increasing your scores in this way is not cheating. It's persisting (and possibly a bit mad to spend hours at the computer doing this, but if the prize is what you want then spend as long as you are prepared to and good luck!)

As others have pointed out there's a limited number of questions (I reckon there's about 5 or 6 hundred) and they keep coming out and you learn them. Some I knew the answer to, some I worked out and some I got wrong, but learnt the answers when it corrects you and remembered for next time I played, until I seemed to have learnt them all.

I don't think my post really says anything new so sorry to be repeating some of these points that have already been made, but I, like a few others can't understand how it can be called cheating and just wanted to say to Caz and others, I agree with you!

Exactly! I've had a couple of quick goes and not done very well! But still, I respect those who have done better and see no way one could cheat. What a nasty thing for someone to say!

BTW Helen, welcome to the forum. I haven't bothered with the quiz this time round but I will have a look to see if there are any new questions, it can be really frustrating when the thing crashes but like Nickij said it gets compulsive and you just have to beat it!!! I found it a good laugh at the time though I wouldn't spend that amount of time again on it, been there done that and won the prize.

I agree with all that say it is not cheating. In fact it is a good way to learn stuff. It is like revising for an exam really. In some sense you are testing yourself to see how many you can remember.

Well done for remembering folks!!

I must admit I was well impressed with the scores!! Got myself all paranoid. I thought I had a relatively good knowledge until I saw those scores..however since going on the quiz a few times I have learned a load more.

I agree with Lemon Drop kid it was a laugh. For those of you i.e. pie and mash, who take things esso seriously...sorry ever so seriously I suggest you go on a mastermind website if one exists and pleasure yourself on that. I've started...so I'll finish.

TTFN All.

Please dont be offended by my use of 'Pleasure Yourself' I only meant it as a skit as to stop being so serious about a bit of fun.

Life is too short.

This thread and the other about quiz fault seems to have descended into exchanging insults, so P&M, for everyone's sake, please accept that most people don't agree with your views on the cheating aspect or accept that some people may just enjoy testing themselves, or seeing how much knowledge they can retain (see Mother Earth's input).

You are, of course, entitled to your viewpoint but why antogonise people about theirs? Since you haven't really been able to put together a set of coherent opposing views that really hold any water, and can now only seem to make feeble retorts to people, then isn't it time this just got left?

Sure, feel free to put a decent opposing viewpoint across and even if people don't agree, they can respect the other side of the coin, but you aren't really representing another side - you are just trotting off random insults. You haven't really explained why you still think it's cheating when people have explained how it works and that if it's set up to run as it is and people sit there doing it as it is designed to be done (see my earlier posting) then that can't be cheating. I'd be interested to hear a proper thought-through response to this if you have one. If not, point proven, I would think...

Or, alternatively, if you don't like the way the quiz has been designed, address yourself to channel 4 rather than whinging on this forum, or find a quiz that you do approve of. Noone is forcing you to do it and the people who are persistent enough to keep going - well they must be enjoying it to keep trying, so leave them to enjoy it and good luck to them.

Wonder if anyone will beat that top score?

I would give the top score a run for its money, if only it wouldn't crash on me so much. Just got to over 200 then it crashed this time the most i have have managed before it crashes is 1500. This is the error i get.

I was going to ask why I was quoted in relation to pleasuring one's self as it wasn't me who posted that but I suppose that it only underlines the deficit of the person who quoted me. To get back on topic. The quiz can be a pain when it chucks you out. I know as my score got higher and higher I was tempted to just exit and save the score to the leaderboard. The first couple of times you lose your score it is annoying but then you just think, it's only a quiz it's not life and death or anything and laugh it off. Shame that Ch4 have not responded to your mail as this has been a problem for some time now. Anyway the best of luck in your endeavours let us know how you get on. SmileMaybe they should put in a thing where you can save your score and return later to where you left off and when you either lose all your lives or when you have had enough then you can save your score to the leaderboard.

I quoted 'Pleasure Yourself' Lemon drop kid. It was something I had said to Pie and Mash.

I think the comment 'berk' was meant for me!!

Morning Mother Earth, P&M quoted me then made comment regarding your comment. I hope you didn't think that I was upset with you. In fact I wasn't upset by anybody just a bit annoyed at P&M he/she couldn't even get that right. Anyway guys, the meal my brother was cooking from the book was last night and it was absolutely stunning. He is just begining his culinary journey and I thought that perhaps he had chosen something too adventurous. What a fantastic surprise, he said that the recipes were easy to follow and the results I can tell you were first class. The menu was well balanced and I for one could not fault it. The salmon starter only needed the addition of brown wholemeal bread which my brother provided without hesitation and we were lucky enough to have a cognac at the end of our meal (which cost £15 a shot) to round the whole thing off beautifully. The conclusion is that the book provides full and easy to follow recipes and the menu was well thought out. Well done Gordon and well done my brother. Big Grin
