I agree with Sachen so far but how can a food critic speak about a subject he obviously knows nothing about. The UK don't make real doner kababs. I tried one in the UK and it tasted so disgusting I could not eat it but last year I had to visit Libya on business and that changed my opinion. A local colleague took me to a kabab shop and explaining my UK experience I was told the UK don't make real doner kababs. When I tasted the real thing I could not believe it and when I was told how they were made I knew why. So if anyone wants to go on TV and preach about doner kababs go and see the real thing being prepared, try it and then judge the disgusting crap made and served in the UK.

Agree but trying to tell you the UK don't make real ones so why pay some critic for telling us they are great when they are crap. Would you really cook the meat cuts he showed you and place them on your child's table? I think not

All he was doing was finding out what goes into the doner kebabs we get in the UK, what on earth is wrong with that? He didn't exactly say they were good, just that he was pleasantly surprised that they actually contained some meat. I didn't see that piece as being some sort of encouragement to go out and get a doner, just a fun, informative look at a foodstuff which, quite frankly, is a major seller in this country.

They are real to us... they're all we know Big Grin

No... I wouldn't serve those cuts of meat for dinner.. my daughter doesn't eat meat anyway. Also.. I don't think many people actually buy their children kebabs... (I don't know anyone who does anyway).. they tend to be a late night munch.
I can count how many kebabs I've eaten on one hand... but I was still interested to see what goes into them... the ones that WE eat here in the uk.

I consider myself to be truly blessed, because I was born into a family that is crazy about good food, and cooking... I have eaten luxurious dishes from all over the world... My particular favourites are japanese and Indian.... But every now oand then, nothing beats a disgusting kebab, a KFC, a Mac.... or anything else, which goes to prove that having ecclectic tastes can either be a blessing or a curse!

Alexandra I totally agree with you. My partner and I are lucky enough to be able to eat wonderful food on a daily basis. Monday it was venison, Tuesday we had fillet steak and Wednesday we ate duck. Thursday, guess what we had.... couldn't be bothered to cook so we got some dirty keebs from the takeaway down the road.

ps. Kebabs are nicest when eaten the morning after the night before... preferably when you find them next to your bed on the floor heh

In reply to the wonderful kababs/kebabs you experienced in Libya.
Are you aware of bovine brucellosis also brucellosis affecting sheep and goats in Libya.
I hope you also checked out mdtravelhealth libya (food and water)on you search engine prior to traveling.
The kebab production featured in the programme showed a controlled clean environment.

I don't really want to know what is in my kebab! All I know is that they taste great with lots of garlic and chilly sauce in terms of when you have the munchies after a night out!We can't eat gourmet all the time! Although not saying I eat them very often.

With the good ol'British quasi Kebab, you need to be Pi**ed to appreciate it fully.

The best Kebab I have had was in Turkey, the little stall, ran by an old Turkish man, had flies buzzing round the meat; but it was tasty!

If the Kebab was well cooked Brucellosis would not really be a concern, it is easily killed by heat - pasteurisation of milk for example.
The risk of food bourne pathogenic organisms is as high in the UK as anywhere because of the sheer quantities of fast food, junk food and low quality food we peddle: welcome to the world of Salmonella, EColi, Cryptosporidium (in water), campylobacter,, ?BSE to name a few.

I've never eaten a kebab in the UK, and I don't think I ever will -they look revolting like most fast food. I've never been in or eaten a McDonalds either.
I spent 3 months this year in Pakistan, India and Nepal eating a variety of food in many different places of differing standards. On my return to the UK I met up with some mates near Skegness and contracted campylobacter food poisoning form a fish supper in a cafe!
