Carl - Elliott Tittensor (Luke Tittensor)
Elliot Tittensor was born in Heywood in 1990. He is twin brother to Luke Tittensor, who is best known for playing ‘Darren ‘Daz’ Eden/Hopwood’ in ITV’s ‘Emmerdale’. However, Luke and Elliot shared the part of ‘Carl Gallagher’ in C4’s legendary, much followed drama, ‘Shameless’. Elliot and his brother took part in an annual charity football match for Epilepsy Action, on the 20th August last year, at Farsley Celtic AFC’s Throstle Nest Ground in Pudsey, Leeds. They will hopefully be taking part again this year. The brothers have been named ‘The funniest twins on TV’. Between them they have been nominated for TV awards, shared the red carpet at award ceremonies with the nation’s biggest soap stars and Shameless is already being shown on American TV. "I haven’t really thought about it but it is exciting to think that people so far away are viewing you and you are getting more known across the globe," says Elliott. The pair lived just off Green Lane in Heywood. Luke and Elliott took the experience in their stride but it was a bit of a shock for mum Anita. She said: "I don’t know how he coped with it because I didn’t like it, it was surreal. He had to walk down this carpet with the press on one side and fans on the other but he did really well, posing for pictures and signing autographs." Luke says: "I once met footballers Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt and had my picture taken with them. If people feel as good about meeting me as I did about my experience then I‘m glad. I want to show that I’m a nice person and not stuck up. Elliott could also have been heard on BBC Radio Four playing the part of a teenager in radio play Lesson for the Loveless, about children with problems at home. Luke and Elliott say: "We don’t like using the word celebrity because we’re not. We have been in Burger King with a friend and there were girls outside watching us eat but if you can’t deal with it you shouldn’t be in the business." The actors have brought to life the daunting prospect faced by thousands of teenagers who become parents. Elliott Tittensor is known to fans as Carl Gallagher in the hit Channel 4 drama Shameless. The 17-year-old from Green Lane has been in the show since it started four years ago and has had a number of hard-hitting storylines to get his teeth into. The latest, which was unveiled in the last episode of the fourth series this week, was one which would probably tug at the heartstrings of many teenagers just like Elliott. In it, a girl Carl has been seeing has told him she is pregnant. He found out she was lying and only wanted to get money out of him, but not before he became terrified of thinking he was to become a father at 16. Elliott said: "Some people may find the storylines in Shameless shocking, but it reflects real life on a council estate and shows that although those who live there may be poor, they are all very close to their families. "I really think it’s like nothing else on TV as the subjects shown are handled with both sensitivity and humour." The actor added that during his time with the cast of Shameless, which is filmed at locations across Manchester, he has built up many friends and helped boost his acting skills. He said: "All the cast are brilliant. Sometimes the storylines, such as the pregnancy scare, can be hard to play, but you can always count on getting expert advice, especially from David Threlfall, who plays Carl’s dad, Frank Gallagher." Former Heywood Community High School pupil Elliott landed his star role thanks to his Bury-based agent Carol Godby, who became a TV star herself after appearing on Wife Swap with Heywood couple Barry and Michelle Seaborne.
