Any one like this episode?

Of all the series "ends" i still think it's the best one and maybe even my favourite single episode ever. There's so much packed into it.

We've got a gob-smacked Debbie getting visited by Steve as a starter followed by a great sing-a-long in the Jockey (You'll Never Walk Alone - a great way to kick off an episode), and the gernal Fiona/Steve/Craig triangle.

If that wasn't enough we have politics and the uncertainty of Kash and Ian, and Karl who has apparently been up to no good.

The jockey scene at the beginning is great, not just for the sing-a-long, but we have Lillian - who any scene with is great (in my opinion!) and Shelia going nuts with anticpation when the raffle's being drawn (7, Who's got me 7's!). Oh and Ian's reaction to Frank nicking lillian's ticket (Frank: All out night for two, what's she gonna do, take his head?)

The whole episode with Steve and Fiona has you on edge all the way through, and i love the way Carl's misddoings with Vernon (Lillian's husband he shot) are very cleverlly under-pinned - even when we find out what he's done we have to wait to the very end to see the full details after all the fiona/steve stuff - very clever.

I've just watched it again, It's such a great episode don't you think?

""And they swam and they swam right into my dam..." - Sue, Green Wing, series 2 - episode 1.

Totally agree with you, Scatter.
As I wrote in another thread earlier this week, I had missed this episode and only saw it once the DVD arrived.
I thought the acting by Fiona, Carl and Debbie was superb and the drama intense. What struck me though was the complete lack of sympathy for Carl and the surprise at Fiona actually leaving the family home.

It was, however, the ending which puzzled me - the family singing Jerusalem - a complete anti-climax in my opinion. What was the point of it?

"Jerusalem" didn't bother me but being on the end credits wit kareoke text did when it was on tv, that was the only thing that irked me on an otherwise flawless episode.

Prehaps they thought Fiona wouldn't go through with it? They all nearly left et the beggining of series 2 but as only Steve went prehaps it hit home more this time as Fiona was definetly going.

The fiona/liam leving bit was really cute too (Can i have a cheeky kiss?)Big Grin

Thats very true, however i think that Episode 4, of which there is audio commentary in the series two box set, is the best because of the same reason...all the comedy and drama packed into one!
Although the main story line following Steve's exploits in drug dealing is deeper than what Shameless usually confonts, the flip side is that the comedy is just as good as the drama...
The scene with Frank asking Ian if hes gay... the funny lines in that are amazing ! Frank: 'I'm having flashbacks to John Inman'
Ian headbutting Frank
and Marty in response to Frank's 'How gay is that line' ...'was a bit' then tourettes ticker 'GAY!'

Though this does show the quality of Shameless...whilst looking at other episodes after saying the above i realised they are all 'pickable' for the best episode

There are lots of great episodes, those we all think are "best", but this is not what this thread is about.

It's more about talking about this one episode in particular. By "Best one" i meant best series ender, not best episode ever. Smile
