I'm currently doing media/sociology research into the type of people who watch shameless and what they think of the characters. Mostly, is the majority of the audience from a working class background, can they relate to the characters, or is the show a characture, and so on.
Please do give me you feeling on the show, why you like it, if you relate to the characters, if you see them as a realistic family and any other thoughts. If you would like to take more of an active role and become one of my research participants, feel free to contact me.
ihave been student (lower class) temp work (working class) teacher (lower middle)
i have watched shameless through out all of these, i watch because its funny, i also watch period dramas because i enjoy those too, not because i am an old maid. where is your evidence that only working class watch shameless? what is the point you are trying to make?
I'm not saying only working class people watch it. I want to see if they are the majority. I have interviewed people who are from a middle class who say they don't watch because they simply can't relate to the text or because the characters and story lines sometime offend them. I want to see if this is a minority.
Middle Class Australian here and I love the programme. Particularly like the Maguires. People look down on them for how they make their money etc, but at bottom, perhaps, they are the most genuine people of all.

Hello Stacey
Well i consider myself to be working class and i'm originally from east manchester were shameless is filmed. And i've got to say i love the show not just because its filmed around there but because i really do know charcters like those in shameless.
You go anywere in east manchester and you're guaranted to bump into a dodge Irish familly like the maguires. One of my best friends familly is a carbon copy of the Gallaghers. Do you get what i mean stacey the people who have made shameless have done a cracking job making there characters so realistic (well except for the comedy effect).

Tell them to never move then to east Manchester they'd be eaton alive.
well I come from a working class family but, having moved out of the city (Liverpool) I now consider myself to be lower middle class. I love Shameless and tbh I think your survey is a bit of a waste of time.
