In the last episode there was a big celebration in the pub when the Mcquires' son and the barmaid got married. It seemed the way it was done the viewer was supposed to share the McQuires happiness, Daddy McQiure looking into the camera and singing "we've come a long way", things like that.
I couldn't identify with them, the only person I identified with was Frank, he left.

I'd be really interested in how others saw this and how they think it was meant to be taken. Compared with the inspiring heroism of the Galligar children in other episodes this seemed sinister indeed.

I think it was meant to be a big finale to the series with all the characters having a sing song.

And if anything was meant to be read into the lyrics I think it was meant to be taken generally about the show as opposed to one particular family.
