Saw that deaf character on Shameless in this new series but he's fake big time as he's hearing with lousy / nonsense Sign Langauge! But i would like to see real deaf actors in SHAMELESS as there is some good deaf actors out there like 'ADAM' in BBC's Deaf Drama 'Switch'! Reckon he will well fit in Shameless due his character in 'Switch'
Worth to check him out and other deaf actors too!

Wonder how many of you shameless fans do understand what that fake "Deaf" character said to lip and kidnappers? None, I bet apart from BSL learners!
I disagreed big time with him and his "mute" cos deafies does lip read well and some of them does speaks real well!

Wish Shameless do 'Stephen Chow' in Shaolin Soccer / Kung Fu Hustle - Know why? He gambled by casting inexperince actors in his "BIG" budget films mean Shamless can do the same by use real 'Deaf' actors in their future series, Get my drift?

I played the deaf mute in this episode and although I'm not deaf, the sign language used was taught to me by a deaf guy and is, as far as I know, genuine colloquial BSL for that phrase. (Most BSL courses won't teach you how to sign paddy c**ts)

As far as gambling on casting inexperienced actors goes, this was my first television appearance and I am very grateful that I was cast despite my relative unknown status.

It would be nice to see people with genuine disabilities portraying characters which usually go to able bodied actors though. Too often are disabled actors passed over for these parts.

Having said that though, it could cause problems if for example someone with genuine tourettes was playing Marty. It would take much longer to film each scene. The production crew need someone who can play it effectively but who can also control it so it doesn't interfere with filming. Mistakes on a shoot cost a lot of money.

Anyway, I hardly think my character was integral to the storyline, it's a gag that I'm mute so can't respond to the torture. It's supposed to show the maguires to be a bit thick.

Anyway. Thanks for watching and keep an eye out for me on other shows in the future.

Life long deaf people seemed to recognise the sign language.

I know of at least one actor with tourettes, I'm sure there are more.
The one I know of is actually a mate of Jack Deam's.

The sign language looked Ok to me.
