The sandgropers are actively pushing their case for Chris Rogers...
Current season 798 runs at 80 ave

Against a slightly felt hard done by Phil Jaques..
this season 350 runs at 37 ave.

Maybe the selectors will feel that Jaques has been in the que long enough and give him his go and rightly so.
Rogers must wait and bide his time exactly like Jaques had to do.

Rogers? FFS. Needs more than one good season. I wouldn't blame Jaques for trying to play for England if he still didn't get a shot with Langer gone.

He's had several good seasons. Maybe you just haven't noticed.

His record shows a lot more than one good season.

I'd forgotten how ordinary he was in his first couple of seasons though.

They'll go Jaques on the short term as he is a contracted player....

Jaques has had one good season, 3 years ago. Rogers has had six good seasons.

We should choose Jaques because ... he's a Dubber??

The next test is too far away to be sure.

Using Hussey as an opener may be another option that will be explored if one of the young middle order batsmen presses a strong case over the next 10 months.

I'd still much rather see Jaques picked for Langer. He has that bit of spark about him. Rogers can replace Hayden when he goes, or we can have Hussey/ Jaques at the top.

Rogers gets to play half of his games this season on a road, same with Voges and North.

Why Jaques?

What's he done to deserve a berth?

He isn't as experienced OR as consistent as Rogers, and he's a sloppy fat git in the field.

Has everyone forgotten just what a perlific run scorer Jaques is and the amazing record he put together last season.!
Ha has spark agreed. Hayden will go shorlty I think and we could see these guys opening anyway but we have a few Jaques knockers here and they dont know crap. Wasn't so long ago the media was touting Jaques to get a go anywhere in the lineup he was that good. Toss marto, Clarke or do something to keep this bloke interested.
By the way how can he play for England.? He could play for new Zealand a lot easier. All he would have to prove is that some where WAYYYYY down his family tree an old great great grandad went there for a visit. A lot closer to home and he would take great delight in belting us all ovwer the park.

I've seen them both live, in various situations to a decent extent. For me, Jacques is better in all conditions. Rogers is good though. Very good. In fact he can bully a flat track to Haydenesque proportions.

Well consensus seems to be we gotta have them both so Haydos, Pack ya bags mate, your too old and you may as well make it a foursome exiting come tommorro.
What a new openinmg pair we are gonna have.!!!
BOY.!!
Rodgers and Jaques. Gonna be something special I feel.

Genius. Finally spells 'Jaques' correctly, then stuffs up 'Rogers'.

There are no Wozzies good enough to play for Australia, at least not in the near future. Tough to get wickets on the WACA though, so maybe if a bowler such as Magoffin or Heal keeps taking wickets they may get a sniff.

Pommersbach looks ok though

Rogers, Shaun Marsh, Voges, and Rhonchi must all be reasonably close. Voges was very close indeed, very recently. Pomersbach is some way off, just yet.

I think Jaques might have been a fluke but I'll give it a mark anyway.

She also earns another one for spelling 'and' correctly.

Well its about time we had a good Wozzie opener. I think Redpath was a Wozzie. He had to try and get runs and not get out watching the most boring partner in the history of Test cricket at the other end doing his best to put everyone to sleep in the name of Bill "brick wall' Lawry. Not an easy feat.
Hussey a future Captain and heir apparent to Ponts will be comming in more often than not to a well contructed opening stand of 100 excesses. Then followed by whoever replaces Ponts.? Gilly may not be there by Ashes 2009 either. Haddin may then be too old as well. Could be an entirely new look setup for us then, with some Voges maybe and Johnson in the mix. I think the Hopes and the Doreys have done their dashes.

You displayed your usual encyclopaedic knowledge of the game except for the following minor nitpicks:

"Well its about time we had a good Wozzie opener."

Had a bloke from WA opening quite recently. Bloke called Langer. Been in the news a bit lately.

"I think Redpath was a Wozzie. He had to try and get runs and not get out watching the most boring partner in the history of Test cricket at the other end doing his best to put everyone to sleep in the name of Bill "brick wall' Lawry"

I'm assuming you mean Ian Redpath. If so, he was born in Geelong and played all his State cricket for Victoria, alongside Bill Lawry, who didn't become 'Barnacle Bill' until they made him captain, by which time his opening partner for both Vic and Oz was not Redpath but Keith Stackpole.

"Gilly may not be there by Ashes 2009 either...."

As he'll be 37 by then that's a reasonable thing to assume, but I recall your comments pre-Brisbane that he was then a total batting and keeping basket-case who should jack it in immediately. That's the biggest change of tune since Donny Osmond went punk*.

But keep up the good work. For homework, try and find the last time Shane Warne took five-for in any form of the game.

(*This did happen.)
