Agree entirely. Even if England performed to their full potential they would have trouble beating this Australian team.

Also playing Vaughan in the 2 day game was rather futile (as the immediate aim should have been Ashes success, rather than the rehab of the former skipper). Allowing Harmison time off from the final warm up game was also a mistake, as evidenced by his rusty performance in the first test - if he broke down then fair enough, as it purely shows he wasn't match fit.

Add to this the decision to go home after the ICC knockout rather than use precious time to acclimatise in Australia.

I would never expect the English to admit when they are wrong but the reality is the writing was on the wall which way this Ashes series was going to go before England even got to Australia.
Blind Freddie could see that since winning the Ashes in 2005 the English team have slipped up numerous times against lesser teams than Australia so how on earth pommies expected England to beat Australia in this series is beyond me.

When you are playing away to the best side in the world and are missing 3 key players you struggle. When you don't pick the strongest side from what's left you struggle even more. Quite how some thought we could win this series is beyond me too. Blind optimism is the only possible answer. There's nothing wrong with being frank about your team if you want it to improve and learn from mistakes. Madmaz take note.
