I've enjoyed this Ashes series so far. It's nice being able to watch 2 teams play knowing that neither of the teams has to resort to some form of cheating in order to gain an advantage.

So why were there so many "lolly/mint" allegations by the Aussies after the last ashes ?

Don't know to what extent fcxx intended it, but the JAMA term is quite apt and full of irony

When England was getting thrashed in ODIs, people like Fletcher and Hoggard said that ODIs and WC are not that important compared to Ashes, which is the real thing for them. Which is fine, except that for all these years (with 05 exception), it has been such a one sided "contest". Mismatch. So how meaningful is that then? Surely it is Just Another Meaningless Ashes

Sub continent cricket is often criticized for being obsessed with "JAMODIs", but the nature of Ashes for all these years can hardly be called good, competitive, tightly contested quality cricket from both sides

I say all this despite having a strong preference for tests vs ODIs (hardly ever watch an ODI from beginning to end). But I don't think it is fair to ridicule them. People are the ones to decide what is meaningful for them. If ODIs is what people in India and Pakistan care more for, there is nothing wrong with it.

Here's an openinig

Probably because us Aussies needed to find a sweet excuse to a sour loss....

Indeed. As they say people power / Democracy is still the lesser evil amongst all the other options around.

And it still need not be about people's preferences or democracy (you could use the same argument supporting those who play down 'JAMODIs'). Even agreeing objectively that tests are in some the better form of the game, purer and more exciting, there's no reason to belittle another form. It is just different, there's no need to get judgemental about whether it is good or bad. It'll only lead to al-mighty crashes like the pompous pom team's downfall, in which case there'll be nowhere else to take refuge in.

So JAMAS!

Thanks for the props guys... Smile

I for one feel that it's never a good idea to be caught up in just one form of the game and ENG is the best example of how things can go wrong when you just focus on one form of the game.

Over the past 15 months ENG spent all the time preparing for this Ashes series while their ODI team continued to go down hill... So now the way things stand they are the 8th ranked ODI team in the world and have little or no hope in World cup and they have also lost the Ashes.

Now let's play cricket......

Nobody on this forum has a problem with One-Day Internationals per se.

They just have a problem with the number of them which automatically devalues their worth.

On the other hand, Test Cricket generally prospers the more it is played.

If there is a glut of two-match test series then these too run the risk of being derided as meaningless.

But a 5-match test series between two old rivals always has meaning - even if one of the teams fails to turn up.

I'll be going to two days of the Test at Sydney and won't find it meaningless at all.

That's because every Test can stand as its own entity - producing twists and turns not likely to be found in a whole series of one-dayers.

Dead-rubber or not, a Test match is usually always worth watching.

Cheers.

Unfortunately there are some things you say here with which some people don't agree. Because of their short nature, ODIs have to played in large numbers to actually produce the twists and turns you mention. I don't see anything wrong with a number of ODIs being played except for the fact that it takes a toll on cricketers. Even otherwise, a single ODI can stand on its own for value and excitement.

As an aside, there are (possibly) long phases of test matches that are pretty boring to watch. It is when you see the whole match as an entity that becomes interesting.

The above is in contrast to many here who DO watch many ODIs, even discuss them here in great detail about what happened, yet declare them JAMODIS and never waste an opportunity to say what a waste of time and joke they are! Big Grin

But then it is like being teenagers, and no one dare to have an "uncool" opinion, lest they appear to be not part of the internet clique. Heaven forbids, if that happens, then people won't be able to hang out with their internet buddies in the virtual world anymore

Excellent post mate, bloody brilliant.

Shows the sheer arrogance of some of the English supporters when it comes to cricket. Like cluthing on to the last straws of the empire.
