I have noticed Ramprakash's 167 today has taken him to 1450 runs with a full 6 games to go.

A few minutes searching hasn't turned up any lists of 2000+ in the modern age online - does anyone know if there are any such lists on the web and if so could you direct me to it?

Or, better still, just tell me who has done it, if you know.

Thanks. Smile

Has Raju conceded 2000 runs in a single season?

Must have come close.

Wisden list the players with 2,000 runs in a season (since 1969) but the most recent edition I have is 1991. Maybe their website has that info????

Did Goochie do it one year when he was banned?

Bailey did 2000 runs and 100 wickets in the 1959 season.

Looks like Mike Hussey was the last one to make 2,000 FC runs in a season, back in 2001.

There is a mention in this article that Ramps was the previous batsman to achieve this back in 1995.

Thanks Wally & MR.

Would be interesting to know who the last batsman to achieve the feat twice was. Suppose someone will tell us in an article if Ramps does make it to 2000 - wouldn't surprise me if it was Len Hutton or someone like that.

Gonna make another attempt at overcoming my insomnia now... cheers and good night.

As I mentioned earlier, I have a 1991 Wisden & up to that point the players of the modern era (since 1969) to score 2,000 in a season more than once were:-
G.A.Gooch (4) 1990, 1984, 1988, 1985
D.L.Amiss (3) 1984, 1976, 1978
S.J.Cook (3) 1991, 1990, 1989
G.A.Hick (3) 1988, 1990, 1986
G.M.Turner (3) 1973, 1970, 1981
G.Boycott (2) 1971, 1970
J.H.Edrich (2) 1969, 1971
M.W.Gatting (2) 1984, 1991
A.I.Kallicharran (2) 1984, 1982
Zaheer Abbas (2) 1976, 1981

When you also include their pre1969 figures, Boycott did it 3 times & Edrich 6 times. It was quite common years ago. I think Hobbs did 16 times.

Hopefully someone will have a more recent edition of Wisden.

It looks like Gooch ended up doing it 5 times.

I wonder if Warney would be most confident bowling to Bell, Cook or Ramprakash?

But it's not going to happen.

Thanks again, Wally.

John Crawley has never done it, and he was probably the 3rd-most prolific county batsman in the 1990s.

Looks like the last English batsmen to achieve the landmark more than once were Gooch and Gatting.

The reduction from 22 to 17 matches in 1993, and then of course to 16 in 2000, the obvious culprit in reducing the number of 2000-run summers.

DOn't forget Tests count too so some players could play 7 tests a summer as well as a County load (less likely now with central contracts I guess).

It's a shame Froggy's scores in the Top End series don't get added to his County scores.

1-2 extra tests per summer doesn't really make up for 5-7 fewer CC games, as well as fewer tour FC matches.

Anyway, aren't most tests in England played concurrently with CC matches?

So you'd lose as many matches as you gained, as well as missing out even more if you had a central contract.

He'd be most confident bowling to the player who averages 20-something in Tests of course...

Thanks a lot.

So since the reduction in FC games in 1993, only Gooch and Ramprakash among domestic players have achieved the landmark.

I fancy if Trescothick got the chance to play as many FC games as Ramps in a season he'd be consistently threatening 2000. Especially with the amount of runs scored at Taunton on average.

Dunno about that. Tres has never been that great in FC cricket. You have to climb almost Bradman-esque heights to approach 2000 in a season these days.

How did Bowler and Roseberry miss out on England caps when just about every county journeyman hack won one in the period 1989-1993?

Because i think Gooch, Athers & Alec Stewart pretty much had the test opening spots nailed on when Mike Roseberry was in his prime

You can add Andy Moles to that list too.
