The hurt is too deep for most to recover from man. The shock has been too much to digest. We all knew the sad story to come when our idiots batted like millionaires on the 4th day, but still, no one was prepared for the full eventuality of the blast to come.
Congrats Saffies. Even though we gifted the series to you, there is no denying your side deserved the win. At least you had some dented pride and honour at stake to play for and you did exactly that. The Indians had neither the pride, nor the honour to offer.
No more cricket till these shamelss SOBs earn my faith and trust back. It won't be a great loss either. Neither of us is exactly going to miss each other. I am not sure that our FTBs turning a few things around against teamsm like SL and WI is the answer I am seeking.
I am looking forward to seeing how BCCI handles this fiasco and if as usual it will sweep it under the carpet hoping a few home JAMODI wins will wash all the sins away.
Merely dropping Sehwag won't do. Senior players like Sachin and Dravid also need to be reminded about their roles in the team given their 'vast experience' and seniority. No team can hope to win if their senior most and most experienced members, the presumed backbones of the team play schoolboy cricket and so irresponsibly.
Jaffer needs to be dropped. Let no one gloss over his century in the last test and ignore his deplorable failures in the entire series. His irresponsible batting along with Sehwag in both the last innings of the last 2 tests is unforgivable.
The entire team needed to play domestic cricket. Sadly the Windies games will divert their focus from the real issues as more mindless cricket will be unleashed. Even if they win a few at home on flat decks what will be the point? It won't take away the hurt of losing to Saffies away 4-0. It will merely divert the issue from the real problems till the explode again in the tests against Pak, Aus and Eng next. Fans would be fools if they now take a few JAMODI home wins and forget the spineless and abject surrenders in the last 2 tests. This team is doomed to a first round WC exit.
Who would have thought that Ganguly would be the top batsman on this Saffies tour a good 9 years after last he topped the batting charts for India in the 3 test slogathon against Lanka at home way back in 1997. Things are way to dismal to pick up for the WC at the moment.
Missing out on all cricket after the last England test in Mumbai till CT 2006 wasn't that big a problem. So missing a few crap JAMODIs at home till the WC won't be an issue either.
I will do my part to send out a message to BCCI by not watching the next 2 JAMODI series on TV. Hopefully the hurt will heal by the time the WC starts. I hope the rest of the Indian fans do the same. If the WC and next test rubber against Pak don't see these shameless team playing with any pride and commitment, then perhaps it will be goodbye cricket forever.
At this rate it's just a matter of time before we go back to Captain Ganguly and his Dada era.

Reflecting my sentiments exactly. It was an ordeal staying up some nights and going to classes/work the next day only to be followed by more staying up hoping the team, and SRT, would pull off something 'special'. And they did pull off something special.
Congrats South Africa. You guys've atleast saved a lot of my time in the near future.
A minor correction to Vikas' post - They batted not like millionaires, but like dumbfug millionaries.
In the beginning, there was GoD. GoD only DoG. GoD only DoG only DoG only GoD. Ad inf.

if i had a penny...
Unlike some forummers I keep my word. I was missing throughout the SL, Pak, Eng ODIs [India's best winning streak in shorter verison] and also during the entire Windies tour where we won a rubber outside after 35 years.
And it's a promise. I won't be making a single post regarding any of the matches that happen against lanka and Windies in any of those official threads. So you can keep your useless pennies to yourself, since they never will need to find their way out of your pockets.
Had SRT said we'll try our level best, he'd've termed as someone saying the same old boring stuff or trying to be correct to everyone.
Had SRT said we'll lose in SA, they'll prove too much for us, we're no match to them, that history against us, he'd've been termed as a loser, the one who demoralises the team even before it has embarked upon a tough tour, etc etc.
And he was anyway going to be lynched after our surprising loss on this tour after what he originally said before we started this tour that India will get back to winning ways during this tour.
As for the thread, yep very well played to SA, truly deserving winners of this tour. They were more hungrier team of the two, which is what matters most to me, more than talent, history, conditions et al. Pollock especially, showed why he should be regarded as one of world's most prolific players and one of the greatest ever.

Goel,
I wouldn't blame Tendulkar for saying that Indian team would return trimphant from SA. Afterall we had never won even a test in SA, and the players had to believe in themselves that they could win; otherwise there is no perpose of touring. Whether others believe that we could win or not is not players problem.
But if Vikas thought that we could win the series before the tour started, then I'm really surprised. The kind of form our players were in prior to the series, I thought that we'd be whitewashed in both forms.
So, obviously I'm very disappointed that we squandered a golden opportunity to win a series in SA, I wouldn't that that I'm devastated--simply because my expectations were very low for this series.
Dravid to me, proved what a liability he is as India's skipper in both forms of the game. He seems so utterly clueles sometimes during the game that one dares to think is he the one who is leading India for more than a year in both forms of the game and India's designated captain for the WC'07.
His (team think tank's) decision not to play Bhajji in Cape Town test, playing not even 20% fit Munaf in the same test, asking Sehwag to open in 2nd innings and playing VRV in Durban test were baffling to say the least. And why he couldn't put a 3rd man most of the times, is simply apalling. You must've seen how badly this field placing hurt India, badly demoralising one for young bowlers.
I was quite unhappy with that non-existing thirdman too. But when things go wrong, everything really looks bad. I think Dravid's lack of batting form hurt us more than anything.
I was really happy to see those 3 plucky innings from Ganguly and the freeflowing Sachin during those 63 and 64 were good too. But didn't you see the vast gulf between the two teams regarding fielding and running between the wickets? I think we always gave 30+ runs because of bad fielding and scored 30 or even less runs because of lax running between the wickets.
I think these areas have to be addressed. But I can't see an improvement with 5 32+ players in our side and fielders like Munaf.
I have been happy with bowling. Sree was a revelation and Zaheer was a completely changed bowler or should I say player as a whole. Had Munaf been fully fit, we could have forced a victory!
So the sitution is not entirely as dark as it is made out to be. It is only that India has to look for batting replacements pretty quickly.
For SA, I think their transition phase is almost over. Steyn, if fully fit can be a good bowled with that out swinger. Prince is hard-working batsman, a grafter which one needs on tough wickets.
They just need to settle their opening and find a new #3 becaquse Amla doesn't fit in the team. The only problem that they have is lack of swing bowlers. But till Pollock is there, they don't need to worry.

Both SG and You are reading beyond the print. I had posted the article before the Saffies series the article about SRt and had told Sg once before that while no one says we will lose this series, given India's dismal run the apst year, Sachin could have been diplomatic about what he said regarding India's chances. Sinmple. No need of saying things you aren't expected to. The reason SRt got into that debate was because of fans growing ire about Indians spending too much time in commercial activities and Sachin taking that as a personal attack. Find that thread and raed the dicussion to know where this is coming from. I am not hoping to have any debate with SG on this since it is a pointless exercise. An experienced cricketer like Sachin doesn't make such tall proclamations when he has no way of knowing his team will back it. Except for McGrath making such predictions, I have yet to see any other player making this kind of superflous claims. Dig up that thread and read the debate. No one makes such tall claims in their right frame of mind. Most Indian fans expected a drubbing in tests so SG's assertion that Sachin would have faced backlash over his statements hold no water as it is contradictory on it's won. In that context in the backdrop of fans rising ire of India's past year failures, Sachin ended up making a needless statement that has now got his foot firmly in his mouth. Thats all I wanted to point out. It was surprisng to see Sachin talking about India's chances unrealistically instead of the Captain or the coach is all. Under any case what I think of Sachin's irresponsible media statements is my own prerogative. A little diplocmacy on his part would not have embarrassed him is all the way McGrath got stung by the Ashes results in 2005. You all can have your own views and we still wouldn't be talking beyond our won hats over it. Sometimes it is important that actions should speak up over mere lip service.
About the series result, I was not expecting India to win this one after the one day whitewash. Infact I have said in one of the threads that we will suffer no less than a 2-0 defeat in tests. Sreesanths's terrific spell in the first test just helped us avoid the igominy of a 2-0 loss to a 2-1 result. That said, after having won a 1-0 lead, the inability of our so called brilliant batting line-up to do their basic job right is appalling, given that the Saffies were at it's weakest moment and under more pressure after the first test. Especially after losing their batting lynchpin Kallis. The inability to bat even 50 overs over a day cost us both tests in the second innings and that really hurts. What hurts is that after a long time we had the opportunity suddenly and unexpectedly to beat a tough team overseas and we blew it. The fact is that even if defeat was expected, we saw no committment, no determination for a fight or no sense in the manner we sqaundered the psychological upperhand gained. It is not what we lost but the way we lost that hurts most.
Did you really think that India could win the test and ODI series in SA before the tour started?
No. I have answered this quation in a post before this. No one of us here did.
And after the way we tanked another splendid series from being 1-0 up [Windies 2002, Zim 2001, Aus 2004, Pak 2005, Eng 2006]I am not certain, I will ever be able to say anything like that ever. The Pak result at 1-1 where we should have forced a draw in the last test and won 1-0 in 2005 and the way we threw away the Mumbai test to a second string England side in 2006 is something I will never be able to get over. It ranks right up there with the last 2 Saffie tests and the Barbados one in 1997.
Our current team has enough experience among it's top players and yet they keep making the same mistakes again and again, in most crucial last tests of most series where a series win hangs in balance. I now fully realize that this team will never learn. NEVER. The abilty in converting most series win leads into series defeats/draws is inexplicable and unfathomable.
What exactly goes wrong whenever India plays the last test of series they should really win? Why do we always choke in these last tests and last innings of any series and throw away series victory so nonchalantly, casually and so criminally time after time? Barring the Pak win in 2004 and the last Windies win, that has always been the story of this team.
Either the bowlers get stuck or batters make a mess of everything. We always choke. Like most one day finals of a triangular.
