from cricinfo:
That's it from Cricinfo for now. I've been Andrew Miller (and I suppose I still am) and now I'm off to watch some Grand Prix darts on Sky Sports.

SO the bloke's been sitting in a room watching SKY sports and then types up commentry in. nice job if you can get it! Can't cricinfo afford to send them to live matches? I'm sure this is some kind of breach with SKy in broadcasting rules?

The Guardian does some very nice online sports commentary, all of it by guys watching TV in their London office. Still fun to read.

Anyway, how are they going to stop him from watching the cricket on Sky if he has access to skysports?

It might be interesting to read a commentry from someone sat in an office in London, who couldn't see the game on TV or listen to it on the radio.....

These days one does not even have to be in the office at all for this. Wirelass broad band + Cricket video streaming means that this job could be done from a public toilet or the beach or from anywhere else one has wireless coverage.

The only games in Australia cricinfo cover are those that are shown on TV...don't think CA allows them into the press area.

Aye. They could even make it live, simulate the sound of bat on ball by tapping a pencil on the desk ...

Ooo yes! and they could simulate the sound of a ripple polite appaulse of a Lords crowd for a well executed cover drive by swiftly flipping through a card index....

Aye, classic bit of work from Aunty...

For those smelly poms who don't know, the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) used to simulate a live 'call' of the Ashes from England based on a constant stream of telegrams from the old country...

I always thought the ABC and BBC were sisters.

Isn't it a well known fact that Cricinfo take all their 'live' commentary from television or the Press Association, and only show up at a game if they're paid to do so?
