Warney's worst ever Test bowling average during his career was 335.00 after his first 3 Tests. However this only puts him 6th on the list of players with the highest bowling averages during their Test career.

Who's no. 1?

You are probably thinking of RN Lewis, but his career worst (and final) average of 388.00 only puts him 4th on the list. He holds the record for the worst final average in Test cricket. There are 3 guys who had a worse average than this before improving.

Mahmud's average reached an apex of 480.00, immediately before he caught and bowled Kaneria in the 1st match of the series against Pakistan.

You are possibly correct OP but I took the averages at the end of each Test. His average prior to that innings v Pakistan stood at 406.00. Test averages are not updated during innings. He took 1-74 and 0-8 in the next Test to drop his average to 244.00.

Interstingly, of all bowlers who have taken over 200 test wickets, only 3 never averged more than 30 during their career (again, taking the end of the test as the measuring point).

ANyone want to hazard a guess at the 3 (2 Poms and an Aussie).

Even more amazingly, Brett Lee is 5th on that list with a highest average of 33.20!

I'll have a punt at Statham, Bedser and Grimmett.
