No allusions to Fosters on this thread, please ... only 'decent' beer.

Is that last one a Pura product? Confused

I have to check out my basket now ... and would probably have to anyway, for fear of my sanity ..

Good afternoon! Smile

no - it's one of several from 'Moorilla' winery and 'boutique' beer makers, situated in Hobart.

O/beer/T: My present favourite Aussie tipple is

basically anything by Peter Lehmann (perhaps no relation). Amazingly cheap, always reliably good.

Anything Barossa or Margaret River attracts my attention, though, even if e.g. Hallett's can be a bit rich.

Oxford Landing is an older favourite.

Have to admit the Kiwis know a thung or two about cruspy flavoursome whites, too.

(*slips into pleasurable alcoholic daze*)

Good grief, we can do a lot better than that. However, I was very disappointed in the Australian wines on sale in England when I last visited, so perhaps you're still seeing little more than our bulk exports in your average Waitrose etc.

look out for Pinots from the Mornington Peninsula and Tasmania (and NZ of course), Sauvignon Blancs from Tassie (and NZ of course), Cabernet Sauvignons from the Margaret River and Mt Barker regions of WA (Cape Mentelle do a great CAb Sav and Zinfandel), shiraz from the Coonawarra and the Maclaren Vales, stickies from Griffith and Tasmania, muscat and tokay from WA. In general I would avoid the mass production wineries like Lehmann, Garrett, Oxford Landing, Annie's Lane, etc.

I'm sure there are others here who know a lot more about this topic.

Such choice stuff would no doubt be wasted on my palate. (And burn a hole in my creaking pocket!)

Those are interesting leads, apart from NZ a new world for me, but I fear likely to be beyond my plebheathen palette!

I only know what I like and vice versa.

But I DO avoid Yellowtail! Big Grin

Well I tried Cascade Premium this weekend and I have to say it's probably the most enjoyable Australian beer I think I've tried. Certain is better than anything fourex, VB or Carlton put out.

As for wines, I'm not an expert and don't have the budget to support too much wine drinking, but I have to say that for $10 you cannot go past the Lindeman's Sav Blanc. Wolf Blass also make some good cheaper wines too. Steer clear of Jacobs Creek though, I've never had a good wine from them.

How did this turn into a booze thread? It's supposed to be about cricket! About the best and most important result in the game outside of The Ashes.

Three (more) cheers for Tassie!!!!!!!!!

Aye, arguably the most important part of the thread.
