The Smith household is in mourning today. Poor old Ashley, yeoman of England, has had to announce his retirement from all forms of cricket. I really hope that the rest of the cricket forum show him the respect that is due a man who gave his all for England. To my mind the fact that position number eight has still not been adequately filled sums up the legacy owed to the man. Ashley Giles; you were a team man who tried his best.
Mr Funt - you are aptly named!! Gilo was so under rated - listen to what his colleagues said about him. Every successful cricket team needs their Ashley Giles. Since he was forced out of the team, through ill health, the results have been, at best, varied. Whilst I accept that Panesar is now England's number one spinner it would be nice for some of the people on this forum to give Gilo the credit he deserves.
Bobby you are surely not suggesting England's test fortunes have declined since Giles hasn't been playing? That's the most preposterous thing I think I've read in a forum for quite a few years.
