DG Bradman 99.94 MEK Hussey 79.85 RT Ponting 59.29 GS Chappell 53.86 ML Hayden 53.00 J Ryder 51.62 SR Waugh 51.06 AR Border 50.56 AC Gilchrist 48.66 RN Harvey 48.41 Four of the top ten are in the current team. Grouse times.
Bit rough to exclude Barnes who had 1000+ runs.
Well the 20 innings limit cut him out, but even if you include him, it just pushes Harvey out...

It's a no brainer then.
MtFTB looks out of place in that list.

Don't worry, I'm sure he'll finish ahead of GSC at the end of the day.

Wanna bet?
Got a lobster for it right here.
You're on.
It's as though the selectors dropped Barnes on exactly 19 innings to keep him out of the stats books. His first class record suggests he could have kept that average up for a longer period if he hadn't been such a nutter. Cheers.
Take away BD/ZIM/ICC and Gilchrist has 47.36. 13th behind Walters, Ponsford and McCabe. Hayden averages 50.23 so drops down the list a bit as well.
problem is 130 or so of those runs vs bangladesh were vital to australian cricket. Without them we would have lost to a minnow just a few months before an ashes series who knows how that would have impacted on the team. Most runs against bangladesh are cheap but i would say those weren't.

Seems a bit wrong to say that all innings against BD are minnow-harvesting except Gillies'.

Indeed. In that first innings the next highest score after Gilchrist's 144 was Gillespie's 26.
And even allowin for Gilly's efforts we were still 160-odd behind.
So I'm glad Gilly decided to some minnow-bashing that day.
Cheers.
Why? It was a rare time in banglaesh cricket where they were well on top and were able to exert pressure rather than just waiting for a team to pile up 3/600 and declare.

Matthew Hayden had an excellent 4 year run.
