Contrast Hughes efforts in that Boxing Day Test , the Pommy Centenary Test and some of his innings and series vs the subbie teams with his numerous brain fades and his dismantling by the West Indies .... Certainly no lack of talent ....
I've prepared for the worst case scenario ...but it could be even worse than that

Bruce Reid for sure.
HE had accuracy pace swing bounce and a left armer to boot.
A left arm swing bowler who can get one up in the rib cage and swing it away the next is gold to any side.

Maybe, but only if ODIS had started in the 1950s rather than in the 1970s. By the time ODI cricket came in he was past his prime and scored 0 in his only ODI appearance against England in 1973. That said, I can remember many one-dayers involving Nottinghamshire where the Great Man made the difference between winning and losing.

The late Sylvester Clarke: If the Windies team hadn't been so difficult to break into.
Collis King: Ditto.
Chris Lewis: If he'd cared about his Test career.
Phil de Freitas: If he'd performed as consistently at Test level as he did at ODI level.

He already is one of the greatest ever despite his injury time out. Same applies to the earlier post on Botham.
