Right, so you start on 2 points if you won your group? In the past haven't teams just carrired through their total points into the stage? I can't really remember...........

Correct, and you don't play the team you played in your group again. Meaning that AUS & NZ were in the strongest position because they brought test playing nations into the super 8's with them and get to play both IRE & BAN still. WI & SL, because of upsets in their group do get to start with 2 points but only get to play 1 of IRE/BAN You catch my drift!?

no, only results against teams that have also gone through
basically no need to play against the same team again in the super 6/8/whatever

Ah yes, but still the way it worked out it was the 4 teams that topped the groups basically.

Is that the same as last world cup?

It's the same as it was in 2003, and in 1999 before that. The effect is that at the end of the Super round, each Super team has played each other and all the points from those matches count. It is dead set sensible.

If India had beaten Sri Lanka ...then Sri Lanka would have won the group but India carried through the points
I've prepared for the worst case scenario ...but it could be even worse than that

NO! You carry through your points and NRR from the match against the other S8 team in your group. Even if you topped your group, you might still be carrying 0 points through, because you lost the match against the other team that qualified.
