I sense that Australia's transition period will see India take over as the world's number one team.

I can't see us beating them in the upcoming series.

This is strange, the Aussie backing India and the Sikh or Indian still not counting the aussies out, I think they will still most ceratinly be a danger, India often lose a good start to a batting innings and good bowlings starts by not staying focused, and with Kumbles defensive captaincy Im not sure, I will definately not count the aussies out but think India will put up a good fight, or at least they should and yesz this is their best chance to take the top spot, hope they do it, I know they can, IF they fulfil their full potential as the descructive team they can be.

It looks like Australia have found an opening batsman in Shaun Marsh who made his ODI debut with a brilliant innings against WI yesterday.
This after being batsman of the series in the IPL.
Haddin was terrific as well.

Maybe Oz can plug a few more holes yet and make a go of it but Ponting has to lead by example and he is struggling ATM.We need Johnson to perform as well.

India must bite the bullet and use their young stars however Dravid and Ganguly will hang on for the first few tests I feel and of course they may succeed and see out the series.

Australia are not the same team without Hayden and Gilchrist and Ponting seems lost without them. Hayden a well known leader may well be back so Haddin needs to become a team leader as well

No offence guys, but you are joking right? All of their talented pace bowlers can't keep fit OR stay in form. Their batsmen are getting old - there's no replacing these greats. They're toast.

If anyone will take over Number 1 it will be South Africa. Followed by England if Simon Jones and Freddie Flintoff can stay fit.

How long have you been following the game?

Australia are in transition and far from this being the first time.

SA are not in the same league as India at present.

PPL don't realise what has been going in in this huge country since it's benevolence.

As for England they are struggling to match the world's worst away team NZ.

The SA import has saved them twice this series.
If they can't THRASH NZ at home what hope against the weakened Australia let alone India away.

As for Barney Flintoff a one series wonder.

Marvellous what you can do when there is no onus on you to perform initially.

Oh, Aussie John. Your opinions are risable to say the very, very least. SA - the team who beat India at home and then were one heavily-doctored-day-four-from-the-start pitch from beating them away - aren't better than them?

Tell yourself what you like, son.

Um, this isn't a point scoring thing. No offence, girlfriend, but I don't want to stoop to your childish level. What, in any way, is England's current situation anything to do whether India become the number one team? Unless I said England will be the number one team... let me check.... oh, no.. I didn't.

Incredibly banal and inane.

Flintoff was nothing like a one series wonder - hence his stats of 44 with the bat and 27 with the ball for the three-year period of 2003-06.

SA are stagnating apart from Steyn they have no new talent.

India have.

Their recent tour of Australia proved that.

Put your money up "son" I am a bookie for the biggest betting agency in Australia covering Cricket and Golf.

Sides on the up

Sri Lanka
India.

Sides stagnating

Australia
England
WI
SA
Pakistan

Sides sliding
NZ

Three years? Impressive.

And the guy is finished.

So those stats are in stone.

As I said a one year wonder.

Are you? You must be just terrible at your job. An absolute shambles.

India have built their team around a batting powerhouse. That has what has kept them competetive. Because the likes of:

Zaheer, Nehra, Pathan, Balajy, M Patel, VRV Singh, RP Singh, Sreesanth, Ishant and one or two others have at some stage looked brilliant only to drop form or more poignantly fitness.

SL? You are such a joker. Jayasuriya is done, no other openers even come close to him. Their middle order is ropey, without Jayawardene and Sangakkara - who have basically kept them in games/series. Worst off is the bowling - two of their all time greats are near retirement and apart from one promising weirdo spinner and a fast man who has failed to live up to his potential, they are bare.

SA - they have possibly the best pace battery in Ntini, Steyn and Morkel. Their youngish middle order is quality.

You don't know what you're on about.

No - first off, you said 'one series wonder' - that adds up to about 2 months. Secondly, you've just said three years is a one year wonder. No wonder you're on your own here. You've stunk the place out with your lack of logic and all round nous.

When people resort to personal insults you know you have made a point.

OK three years if you say so though I only recall one really good year.

As for SA Morkel and Steyn yes but like Australia many of their players are getting on a bit whereas Australia has more depth in their Pura Cup than SA in their Currie cup.

Since we last conversed India travelled to Pakistan lost the toss and had to chase and won with 8 overs to spare.

India are a stronger unit than when they last played the Proteas and IMO are destined to become number one very soon.

Here is the latest consecutive wins stats for the top three ever.Australia holding it twice.

Sri Lanka first into the final, eh?

Well, that's an achievement in a six-team comp where three of the teams would be pushed or beaten by any Aussie district team.

JAMODI all over again.

WTF are you on about John?

Sri Lanka were the first team into the Asia Cup Final.

No big deal, becasue there was no way in the world that Hong Kong, the UAE or Bangladesh were going to make it, then it was always a better than even money bet that SL would make the final. It was always going to be two of India, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.

It wasn't directed at anybody. It was there to be read as lightweight news with a sting for those in the know.

An old forum tactic.
