Excellent! I see everyone is in a state of feverish excitement at the prospect.

Collingwood is the only viable option. There is no way Pietersen will be considered because of his batting influence in the team, especially after waht happened to flintoff during the winter.

I reckon he should focus on first class cricket for the rest of his career. He'll last longer and perform better.

Totally agree, but I just can't see Vaughan letting the ODI captaincy go to someone else without resistance.

My nomination for ODI captain would be for KP.... just for something completely different!

Nah.
Collingwood's too conventional and predictable.

KP might just inject some pazazzz into the side.

Do you know for sure though? I don't. Think he'd be a strong leader, lead from the front type. Tactically, who knows exactly, think he uses his brain alot when batting and bowling so that's at least some kind of inkling. Reckon he'd be a good man manager, he's an old head now, plenty of experience.

I wouldn't play Monty in ODIs anymore. It's pointless.

Lewis would bowl. Yardy perhaps?

Not sure Shah should be opening.

Yardy - complete dross for me.

Not good enough at either discipline.

Shah, Joyce and *gulp* Solanki are 'Lions' - which would suggest they're in the shake up for any openings in the batting line-up.

But Moores' favourite Yardy is also on board, so I'd imagine he'll be at the head of the queue.

What with Bopara being an injury doubt, Flintoff out, Vaughan gawn, a few batting places may well be up for grabs.

Prior will probably open with, perhaps, Cook.

Couldn't even guess at the bowlers. Plunkett and Mahmood (he's injured anyway) wouldn't seem likely picks. Perhaps Broad? Tremlett has all of a sudden found a bit of form. Onions has been on the fringe for a while now. Shreck? Sir James of Kirtley? Kabir of Ali?

Who knows?

Perhaps something like:

Prior +
Cook
Shah
Pietersen
Collingwood
Bell
? - all-roundery type. Clarke? Gidman? Swann? Batty?
Broad
Anderson
Sidebottom
Panesar

Disgusting looking tail, but what can you do?

To the shock of no-one, Vaughan's quit as ODI skipper.

Interestingly he says he still wants to be part of the team. Now why would he stand down as captain and then still play in the side? That really would make no sense.

Get him fit - sounds like a plan.

Coupled with my well thought out tactical strategy of "Try harder!", it's a recipe for success...

I haven't actually got a clue about the ODI side. Not a diddly, so who knows what they'll come up with....

I'd like to see no Solanki or Yardy though please.

I suspect you're going to be sorely disappointed on both fronts then.

Disappointment and England's ODI side tend to go hand in hand anyway...

It's not like Slogdonki hasn't been tried and failed before though - 51 ODI's FFS

And Yardy.... strewth, give me strength. Maybe he's going to be picked to fill the camp little walk quota.

Freddie has a chronic ankle problem- he should quit ODers and try and prolong his test career rather than playing mickey mouse cricket.

I'd personally make Strauss OD captain in the sense that he may well take over from Vaughan as the test skipper, so it makes sense to have his successor in situ.

Vaughan hasn't retired from ODIs, has he? Surely he won't be dropped immediately?

And the bad news is Bopara may well miss the ODIs with a hip injury. So what does that leave us with then?

Solanki
Cook
Shah
Pietersen
Collingwood
Prior
Yardy
Bresnan
Broad
Sidebottom
Panesar

Don't see many alternatives to Yardy and Bresnan to be honest with Fred and Bopara injured, and I reckon Solanki will need a big score on Thursday.

Don't see the point of him being in the side with cronky knee & not being captain
