England just thrashed and almost whitewashed West Indies 3 - 0 at home to an early confident start to their home season. India just thrashed the mighty Bangals 1 - 0. Techically since we are also without any coach or proper management and organization, this rubber should ideally be a no contest. Still let's take a poll.

Question:
What will be the likely outcome of the rubber?

India wins 1 - 0
England wins 2 - 1

I've just saved the above post and will find great pleasure in ramming it down your thoat when (not if) the Indian bowlers do take 20 wickets. Wink

As far as I recall, the last time they had no problems in taking 20 against a far stronger batting and bowling line-up which included Flintoff. England found it nigh impossible to defend a 500+ innings score too. And that's true of both home and away series. I hope you're not having nightmares thinking of the 2002 tour.

Sreesanth seems to have a high economy rate but a low strike rate. Can see KP tucking in but also losing his wicket to him a few times.

What makes Sreesanth one to watch out for is that he bowls both swing and seam. On home soil he's not that effective given the conditions he has to bowl in. If he finds the line he bowled in SA, he may turn out to be a thorn in the English eye.

But yes, he can be erratic too and if he is, KP will have a field day. Bose though (if he plays) is slower but far more accurate. I certainly hope the newcomers are given a chance.

Mirch- think it'll be an interesting series certainly. If we are in for a wet second part of the summer (which seems distinctly possible) how do you reckon India will fare against the swinging ball?

Just had a quick look at the England averages in that series, and the obscenity "Tudor" appeared in the column. I'd managed to eradicate that word from my memory.......

Thorpe and Tresco only played in one test- not sure you can claim that our batting line up then was better than it is now.

In the last two series ( tests ) England have used the excuse of "inexperience" with their bowling line up.

The tables are turned and this India bowling unit is very inexperienced.

It will be tough for the Indians - depends on the rub of the toss and the weather.

It's very difficult to predict anything Rob, when/if rain has a say in the series. I somehow think it isn't going to be that bad. But yes, if the ball swings a lot, I think India will be in problems mainly with their openers which also means exposing their middle order. Actually I am thinking more of India’s tour to South Africa last January where they were only able to take 20 wickets once in 3 matches and lost 5 straight ODIs.

Are Tendulkar and Ganguly the players they were five years ago though? The other issue is whether the Indian seamers, even if they swing the ball, will adjust to bowling an English length. The ground where it will swing most is Headingley, which has very individual conditions. I think Indias best chance for a victory will be at Lords.

I think you're a little mixed up as far as the tests are concerned. It could have gone either way right up to the last day. India lost 2-1 after dominating much of the third test. Oh, and by the way, India lost the ODIs 4-0, but you're right there. SA did dominate in the ODIs. But this story is about ENG/IND.
