Speaking for Oz the answer is no.

Punter can't set a field and his bowler combinations are not good.

Well speaking as some one whos not a fan of OZ, I think Ponting is a great test captain as shown by his figures in the captaincy, and obviouisly he has also done a good job in the ODI's but I reckon hes not too hot in T20 department, and from what I have heard of Warnies success and the possibility of clarke's captaincy I reckon clarke would most certainly be the better choice of OZ captain for the future.

As for india, very happy with the T20 of course as they won it with style, Dhoni is a great captain, inanitive positions, takes risks, good role model, and got a lot of years left in him, I am looking to him for India's furture, nothing against Kumble, great bowler and keep him in the team but I reckon Dhoni should take the Test captaincy sooner rather then later to settle in, take the best out of the Old hands still in the team, then set about re building India to continue in the great start is has had in recent Months.

Agree about Dhoni he is the future Captain.

Punter a good test Captain? not yet but he is better than a few years ago I guess.

For me he lacks imagination with his bowlers eg he can overbowl Symonds when he is obviously being targeted.

He reminds me of Clive Lloyd who used to change bowlers by his wristwatch beeper.

To be honest, I have never really tried to fully analyse his captaincy but I always assumed he was really good, other wise how could he have had such a good record against the rest of the world, but then now that I think about it, Mcgrath and Warnie bowling together really doesnt take a genius to work out that sooner rather then later, wickets will start tumbling, that is unless your names, VVS Laxman, Tendulkar, or Lara.

Laxman sometimes gets himself out in foolhardy fashion and reminds me of Hayden in that respect. A great player just the same.

You could have fun listing those top batsmen who get frustrated and hole out to a foolish shot.

Hayden
Laxman
Pietersen
Ponting
Ganguly
Graham Smith
Chris Gayle
Gilchrist etc.

Then those who never get out foolishly.

Tendulker
Hussey
Dravid
Dhoni
Boucher
Collingwood
Jayawardena and so on.

Partly agree, but Dhoni has had many an ocassions when his pleasure for the big shot has been his down fall, and I have seen Dravid do it only once, but then Dhoni has matured greatly since then and only needs consistency now to become great and Dravid had already made 143 I believe it was against West Indies with Sehwag 180 off 190 and Kaif 140 ish too, + he was tired but still it was the worst leg spinning delivery from Chanderpaul and they both knew it because they were all laughig, but on the whole I agree.

Your example of Dravid is a little unfair as he was 143 runs at the time. Big Grin
Highly amusing though.

Im not sure why it was unfair, dont get me wrong it was a great innings, but taht was a lousy ball, it was almost as wide as Harmisons first ashes attempt ball, it could have been I think if SHIV was a quickie, but still to chase a ball that wide is poor from such a class act, but then he is getting on, and recently, Ganguly has had the same unfortunate blow being to tired to try for the century after he has been in such sparkling form.

I meant he didnt give his wicket up easily after all he scored 143.

After passing say a hundred if the team is contributing also all is forgiven re what happens after that. IMO often it is then necessary to risk it.
