this is for all people who want to discuss indian fast bowling.

right now we have a good opening pair. Munaf patel and sreesanth. theyre both pretty sharp, sree being 135 consistently and swinging both ways, and munaf being high 130's consistently with good accuracy and nip. if these two stay fit, we will have a descent chance of making inroads in south africas top order when we go there soon.

the other pacemen are somewhat of a worry tho.
most importantly, PATHAN.
hes essentially lost all his pace and bowling at 115-128 consistently. minimal amount of swing too compared to his earlier days. when he was bowling 135 or even 130 consistently and swinging it prodigously, he was a world beating paceman.
now i'd recomend him to take a few months off, even miss the sri lankan tour, and work on his pace and swing so he can be brought back into the test 11.

unlike a lot of subbies i value test cricket extremely highly as compared to the pyjama roobish.

and forget pathans batting FOR THE MOMENT. if we have 3 quality paceman at their best in munaf, sreesanth and pathan , with kumble the spinner and sehwag chipping in, thats all the bowling we need.
right now when pathan is in the team as an allrounder we're getting an unpenetrative military medium collingwood type bowler who cant even bat as well as colly or another part time bowler.

he needs to fix his bowling then concentrate a bit on his batting

also vrv singh is an interesting prospect. reminds me a lot of harmisson. he just needs to get fitter and learn how to use his pace to his advantage, also moving the ball will help

Pathan's decline in terms of loss of pace coincided with his bulking up. I reckon he needs to get back to his lean mean ways if he wants to get his zip back.

I reckon either Balaji or RP Singh are good prospects to pair up with SS and Munaf.

absoloutely.

ive been very impressed with rp singh from what ive seen of him.

very easy action and a tall bowler who can also swing it. if pathan fails atleast we know we have this left armer to come in.

i'd love to see balaji back and bowling at his best

man nehra has basically said he doesnt wanna play tests. he is not disciplined and fit enough for it. chappell doesnt want him there and for good reason.

bala is undergoing intensive rehab on his injury i think. he might even have finished by now and is starting playing competative cricket

Balaji was recovering from some bad back problems. I believe that he is OK now and has started playing.
Not sure about Nehra perhaps written off by the selectors.

It's alright, he follows a formula:

Put in a bigotted/one-eyed/clown-like one-lined post.

Sook off.

Pathetic retort.

Don't expect a reply any time soon.

Oh i ain't, dont worry about that.

He's a prize fool if ever there was 1

I also think so. But I have high hopes from Munaf and Sheesanth. I also hope that Pathan gets his act together.

Why does Pathan get so much attention on here? From what i've seen he's a distinctly average bowler. What's he ever achieved in Tests? 52 wickets at 45+ if you take out the minnows.

Munaf Patel is India's best prospect, you need to keep him fit and firing. Sreesanth has started well but i'm not convinced yet.

True Gary. But pace bowlers need time to find their feet. And in India there is no system, no professional guidance for these pace bowlers particularly. Whatever they are doing or achieving is entirely on their own, even at such a young age!!

Then what's the point of the MRF pace academy?

MRF pace academy has nothing to do with the board! It is run by a company.

So he's a left-handed Indian Sami...

From what i heard all the promising Indian pace bowlers go to the MRF pace academy where they are trained by D Lillie! Even M Asif went there last year.

Exactly. But they do not have any control on the bowler while he is playing for his country or state or whatever. Till you have that close guidance you just can't be without problems.

For example, I read somewhere that Pathan is increasingly confused these days. Firstly some great bowler advised him to change his grip to get the swing which has resulted in great pace loss. Then he talked to Imran Khan, Holding and Bishop etc. Everyone gave him some advice which might have worked for them but it has confused Pathan terribly and at the moment he is in no man's land!

Had a professional coach been with the team, he'd have solved the matter keeping Pathan in mind.
