Another pace bowler coming up?

Ishwar Choudhary from Gujarat is 18 years old and is supposed to have great potential.

He'll be playing for India U-19 in Pakistan next week. Will the matches be televised?

Pathan told to change his grip again

Former Australian fast bowling terror Jeff Thomson was on Wednesday approached by his good friend and former team-mate Chappell to sort out ‘problems’ in Irfan Pathan’s bowling.

A 40minute session seemed enough to identify areas of concern in Pathan’s bowling, and Chappell and Thomson discussed the problem.

“There is not much of a problem with Pathan’s bowling. It is just that he has to start working on his basics again,” Thomson said after the session. “I have only suggested a change in his grip. The rest seems fine with him,” said Thomson.

However, it was evident after watching the Aussie great working with Pathan that he advised Pathan not only on a new grip but also gave him a few tips on improving his bowling run-up and the point of release of the delivery.

-----------------------------------

So how many bowling greats have adviced Pathan till now? It was Wasim Akram in the beginning, then Imran Khan in Pakistan, then Andy Roberts in WI and now Thommo!!!

Can't we have a bowling coach to look after our players?

Does Dravid’s team need a bowling coach?

With external help being randomly utilised to help the team’s bowlers with their problems, it may be time for BCCI to start thinking of a full-time solution

I've been saying this since months. But will BCCI EVER wake up?

Vijay YoMahesh took 6 wickets out of 7 to fall in the Duleep Trophy vs SL A. I hope this young boy comes through properly.Smile

Chappell seeks Akram's help

Again?

Why can't we have a full time bowling coach?

To be :

1. Vijay YoMahesh
2. Abu Nacheem Ahmad
3. Ishant Sharma
4. Abid Nabi
5. Jesuraj (?)

There are SS Paul who bowls excellent swing and Siddhartha Trivedi too, but I don't think they'll get a chance at international level.

Anyone has other names?

Buckaroo,

You wanted to know who can be the candidates if BCCI goes to select a cover for Munaf.

Well, take your pick here.

What has Abid Nabi done earn a test call?

He has done nothing special of late...but from what I saw/heard he does hold the capability to be fast. And the lead pair of test level quick bowlers the primary consideration would be pace.

Very wrong assumption.

Pace has never been sole criteria for success. How successful is Lee in tests? Tait? And the bowlers who can't do anything at domestic level despite having the so called fearsome pace, can't do anything at international level!

Ishant Sharma, to me, looked very good indeed. Accuracy, with a little movement. Bit like McGrath.

Very good point !

The faster quickies like Lee and Co might not have wickets to support them, but they do make an impact on even a settled batsman's mind and force him to give up his wicket to some other clever bowler. So it is the cleverer bowler like Hoggard, a Warne or a McGrath or a Clarke that takes the wickets but it is a Lee that genuinely irritates the settled batsmen with that annoying pace.

Two genuine pace bowlers are an essential ingredient in any good test level bowling side. It is immaterial if they take wickets or not. Just bowl as fast as they can. It will help the cleverer bowlers in snaring the wickets.

No batsman in the world finds himself entirely comfortable against good pace bowling.

I agree there. And he has a lovely outswinger too. But don't compare him McGrath. He is too young for any comparison with that great.

Don't quite agree. If you are 150k/h but are always off target, will not bother anyone, like Dilhara Fernando. Remember that Lee was hammered for more that 200 runs by Indians at Sydney? Shoaib was taken apart in the very next match at Multan.

No, I agree. But anyone who has his level of accuracy and sensibility at his age should just keep improving, when experience comes. I'll compare him to Mo Asif(a little) minus the drug-cheating.

Smile

And he has done quite well in the two FC matches on the flat Kotla track.

Those are exceptions...and not the rule.

D Fernando OTH is cut in the Sreesanth mould.

The real exceptions to the quickie combinations are: McGra and Pollock.

But that is just because they are such experienced campaigners, but even they started off as really quicker bowlers.

So how have Abid Nabi and VRV not set even domestic cricket on fire?

Answer is pretty simple: they lack accuracy, don't put the ball in right areas and so on. They have been ineffective so far. I just wonder how you can expect so much from them!Eek

I will not judge a fast bowler on the number of wickets he takes. Very often one has noticed that the pressure is attempted to be released on the other bowlers which results in a flurry of wickets.

The chief question is whether they are capable of troubling a batsmen...causing him discomfort...threaten him with acute pain...threaten to hit him on the ribs...threaten to get his toe crushed...

and other such benign considerations.

I'd say that YoMahesh and Ishant Sharma are certain future India caps. They just have to keep working hard for atleast one season.
