One thing I've noticed about Nicholas is that he is incredibly knowldegable about the game. I think he particularly likes Aussie and WI cricket because of their rich history and all those great batsmen and bowlers that have represented the two countries.

I have no doubt that MN is knowledgeable aout the game.

His description of some of the technical aspects of what's going on in the middle is quite insightful.

What turns me right off is the public-shool smarminess and at times outright sexual arousal he portrays.

The truly great commentators know just how excited to get and when to put the lid on it, and when to let the atmosphere of the game do the job.

I'm not a fan of Tawny or Bull for the same reason, and personally can't wait for TGM to go into commentary full time. I think he will be a revelation.

A reasonable opinion backed by thoughfullness.

Other commentators describe Hayden as big strong and imposing and no one cares.

I look forward to the rotation of commentators as the droning of Holden and the whispering of Cosier etc are enough near the end of their stint.

Nicholas is a bit girly but he does liven things up.

New kid on the block syndrome?

I think so.

The art of the commentator is not in what they say, its when to say it.

Nicholas commentates like a cheerleader to me whenever a four or six is hit.

I love the fact that Richie B can say more by saying nothing, and then a few words after the shot has say - hit the rope or the action is finished for that ball.

Richie is lucky the broadcast is on delay by a few seconds.

"What a good (pause) catch."

It's the manner in which he does it and he reckons he's cut out the 'Enid Blytonisms'. He does know the game but seems to have a distinct fetish for strapping antipodeans. He never enthuses the same way about 6 or 7 of the other teams in the same way and is therefore unbalanced, which isn't a trait you look for in a commentator.

You'd never get number that past the ICC - too many on the field for the Umps to keep their eyes on during play.

Why are they being very 'spartan' in it? Is it good? I want to see it.

They are so hard they go and fight the Persian hordes only wearing a pair of speedos and a cape. Lots of very muscled men to get Nicholas excited.

Was pretty good yeah, watched it last night.
