Been watching highlights of the 75-83 World Cups recently and one thing i've noticed is the amount of batsmen who only used the bottom button on their shirts Big Grin

(Not that I have a Santa tendency to look for these things you understand!)

This phenomenon was usually accompanied by the thickest moustache possible.

Was it a 70's thang?

Watched the highlights a few months back and remember thinking if Zaheer Abbas had been showing any more flesh he would have been arrested for indecent exposure.

Maybe it was an 80s thing, that was the era or the uber-short football shorts.

Basically I think the sporting world decided to get less camp. They realised the open shirts and tashes made them look uber-FrankieGoesToHollywood and decided they'd better 'relax' their festive tendencies.

I can live with that theory, but for me the lack of tash & open flesh was responsible for an even worse thing - the Kajagoogoo Mullet!

The lack of any mighty afros in the Windian team is very disappointing too.

Yes it was.

What about the football players (all codes).

Surprising how long some posters are in kindergarten mode.

If you include the moustache, yes.

But I believe one Richie Benaud was the pioneer of the chesty one-button-done-up look.

Cheers.

Seems to me Aussie Rules has never got over it. They love camping it up, touching each other and acting all butch. I've heard it's called the closet sport.

These days its more about hair and make up ie Symonds and his white lips and bowlers with white blusher on their cheeks, even at night. Chanderpaul likes his black strips under his eyes. Then we have all the weird and wonderful hair styles. When batsmen are out, off come the helmets and they run their fingers through their hair to make sure it's not plastered to their head. Earings and tatoos are popular with some of the England players but open shirts on white bodies isn't. Smile

Cullen Bailey is supposed to be a Richie Benaud clone complete with open shirt. It wouldn't surprise to see him playing test cricket sometime in the next two or three years.
