What's it going to look like?

Strauss
Cook
Vaughan*
Pietersen
Flintoff
Collingwood
Dalrymple
Read+
Tremlett
Lewis
Anderson

maybe? The batting order doesn't have to look like that. Pietersen, for example, could be shunted up the order if required.

Might have Bell in the team in place of Cook.

Cook's not in the squad though!I think this will be the first choice team:

Vaughan
Strauss
Pietersen
Bell
Flintoff
Collingwood
Dalrymple
Nixon
Tremlett
Panesar
Anderson

Not sure cook/strauss opening will make good enough use of the power plays.

I think if vaughan is going to play opening sounds like a good idea.

I would bring in Lewis for Anderson. Just feel Lewis should be given a bash. Maybe in place of Dalrymple or Panesar?

A Little Hard Work never killed anyone....but why take the chance?

I'd have Bell and Pieterson alternating 3 & 4 depending on how good a start we get. I'd also try and split KP and Flintoff in the batting order in the attempt to keep one of them for the last 15 overs.

Owais Shah should be in the squad and he should be opening the batting. He tears attacks apart for Middlesex in the Twenty20 at the top of the order. He's also got the class to go on and get a really big score after a fast start. Such a waste of talent him constantly being overlooked.

Unlike his father, Stuart isnt an opening batsman. Well actually he did apparently open the batting in School cricket......

I didn't mean Broad for batting, silly!

Just meant for the ODI team in general.

Broad will be well and truly amongst the England squad next summer. No need to rush him, though.

Who would be the most prolific 'list A' batsmen in England? Off the top of my head im thinking KP, Shah, Tres, Chris Adams, Ali Brown, Ramps, and Joyce.

Take away Kp and Tres and how many ODI's have the rest played put together? Im guessing about 50. Perhaps it tells a tale of woeful selection policies when it comes to ODI's.

You could look at the bowling as well. Harmi has a very poor record for Durham in list A games. Even in the last 3 years, he hasnt always been guaranteed a game for them. Saj Mahmood isnt a regular for Lancs in List A, neither is Simon Jones for Glamorgan. Onions from Durham has played about 5 list A games for Durham and has an average around 50 and an economy rate around 6, yet he made the World Cup preliminary 30. Do England honestly think he can come into the ODI side and suddenly become a good one day bowler?

Lewis has been an excellent one day bowler for Gloucs over the years and surprise surprise he has been England's best odi bowler in the last 6 months.

The selectors need to have more faith in County Cricket when it comes to selecting ODI players for England.

Only The Gravenator and Geoff Miller watch county cricket.

The other selector, Duncan Fletcher, doesn't bother.

Given that there's some nine games going on at any time, it's pretty sad that only two of them get watched by people employed to know as much as possible about every English player.

This winter's A team might not look too crash-hot, but at least Peter Moores has shown some kind of knowledge of the county game and an imagination for the less vaunted players around by selecting guys like Will Jefferson and Michael Carberry.

Perhaps, as they did with Rod Marsh, the Academy coach should be bumped up to senior selector status, as he would appear to have a greater appreciation of what's going on in county cricket than any of the other three.

Lewis and Anderson will open the bowling. Both have very decent records with the white ball at ODI level.
