Do Eng selectors think that Giles will get to play any part in WC'07? If not, why is he there? Just to make up the numbers?

Also, has Hick got too old to get into Eng ODI team? I'm not following his numbers in recent county seasons, but he surely can't be any more worse than the current lot.

I think he was dispensed off quite early from Eng ODI team. He could've been Eng's third best ODI player in the current team after KP and Freddie. IMO he was a very good ODI player, who never got enough chances cement his place in Eng ODI team or does Fletch doesn't like more Zimbabweans in Eng cricket setup?Wink

Mal Loye is a big hitting, fast scoring opener. Quite innovative and is probably the best option in England to take advantage of the power players.

Khan is a useful bowler who can bat a bit too. Wicket taker but can be a bit expensive. Decent pace and can move it a bit. Is actually Danish.

The surprise ommision is Trescothick. I still thought he would be considered despite what has happened.

Thanks.
Batting looks ok but ENG really need one or 2 fast bowlers to start performing in the ODIs.

Harmison has retired from ODIs.
Jones - gone for good I hope.
Trescothick - probably told the selectors he was not fit enough to be considered.
Foster - that surprises me.

The strength in depth of English cricket is staggering.

Foster has probably interfered with one of Duncan Fletcher's family pets.

Such is the current situation I'm actually getting nostalgic for Solanki.

Tresco at the top of the order would've been invauable for Eng, though there is still some time left. Boards can still pick anyone for WC outside the declared 30, so not everything is lost.

Some of those are there just for the sake of it. I mean they have to name a 30 men squad.

Bowls at a decent pace - he hit Mark Cosgrove in a one-dayer last season. Mind you, targets don't come much bigger than Baby Boof!

Good Picks:

Bopara
Broad
Loye
Onions
Shah
Tremlett

I reckon about one of them will get through to the final squad regardless of how badly the others perform...

Still very unbalanced at the top of the order- in the absence of Key, Loye has surely to be worth a punt....

Maybe a 15 of:

Loye
Vaughan
Bell
KP
Flints
Colly
Read
Nixon
Trembler
Anderson
Lewis
Dalrymple
Panesar
Broad
Strauss

might be worth a punt. Mahmood should be left out as is too erratic- one of Broad or Trembler might develop into a consistent 3rd seamer- in the Angus Fraser mold.

No mention of Si Jones either- he bowled very well with the new ball in the OD stuff in his few appearances- presume he still isn't fit.....

I'd be quite happy with that squad. As in, it's probably one of the best we could put out, with a bit of variety in there.

Haven't heard anything of him for months. Pretty much forgotten about him.

Theres two possible scenarios with Simon Jones.

1) He's secretly been training after successful surgery, losing some of that top heavy muscle he has, aswell as modifying his action slightly (to prevent future injury) and maybe going through all the right procedures that will result in him putting himself up for selection for the Windies test series.

OR

2) He's been told he will never play again and is keeping it quiet until the right moment.

A Little Hard Work never killed anyone....but why take the chance?
