Don't think he'd have hushed it up- would have retired in order to claim his insurance money and become a fulltime model or whatever it is he does in his spare time.

Shame as he had a decent yorker, would have been a very useful death bowler to have in addition to being able to swing the white ball. WOuld stil rest FLintoff from these games myself.......

I'd prolly rest Flints too. Can't see why he has to play these games. They don't really matter in comparison to the World Cup in 2-3 months. What's the point in building a team if the main part of that plan is injured. Poor sod.

I'd prefer him to retire from the ODers completely- he has been massively overbowled in the last year or so and is carrying an injury as it is. Let Broad and Trembler show if they are really upto it at international level......

To be honest, Colly's filth hasn't particulary worse than any random seamer we've been bowling. I wouldn't mind himcontinuing for a bit in ODers, but would refrain him from a long career there. At least Mick usually knows the right times to bowl him. Really, really can't see how Broad and Trembles could do any worse...

Certainly shouldn't take the new ball- need Lewis/Anderson to swing it and Broad to bowl l & l with Trembler hopefully bowling the "heavy" ball as 3rd seamer...... Flints if he plays should bowl the middle overs and at the death.

Still like Monty. Thought he bowled better than his figures suggested.

Yeah Monty should play although his he needs to strengthen his throwing arm- will learn alot by playing in the OD stuff.

I think they should rest any players who have played a decent amount of cricket lately and don't need to seriously prove their worth in the one day game- Strauss, Bell and Collingwood should pack their bags, maybe Panesar as well. Just field a team of one day specialists, rookies and fringe players desperate to make an impression. The results wouldn't be any more/less of a foregone conclusion and chucking a bunch of metaphorical kiddies in with the metaphorical sharks & seeing who metaphorically sinks and metaphorically swims would be far more engrossing than seeing some tired, unmotivated, demoralised, treadmillised international cricketers going through the motions.

A Future One Day Side if Fred Were ever to be rested...

Strauss*
Bell
Peitersen
Shah
Dalrymple
Foster+
Onions/Amjad Khan
Lewis
Panesar
Broad
Tremlett

The tail looks kinda long. But I suppose, by bringing Shah and Peitersen in as Aggressors down the order with pinch hitters Bell and Strauss. And Dalrymple and Foster as the two possible all rounders.

Lewis may have to miss out.

The tail's over half the side there. Radical thinking though- might confuse the other side.

Broad and Tremlett would probably bat at 8 and 9 respectively in that side.

People are actually surprised that Foster and Key aren't in the side? They are both average players, even more so in the one day format.

I'd take:
Batsmen: Ian Bell, Paul Collingwood, Mal Loye, Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Strauss, Michael Vaughan
All rounders: Jamie Dalrymple, Andrew Flintoff
Keeper: Matt Prior
Bowlers: James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Glen Chapple, Ashley Giles, Jon Lewis, Chris Tremlett

I don't think I can bear to watch Lewis bowl and Nixon keep in the World Cup.

He's one of England's better one day bowlers, and there aren't too many good ones around!

It's a rather pointless exercise naming 30 players when they can take only 15. I think they should extend that to 17, bring more tactics into it. Can't see Nixon getting a place, I think the 30 names just show it will be one of Read or Prior with Read in pole position despite something like 61 runs in his last 7 ODI innings

I agree, hes done well in his games so far. I'm surprised to find out that we've won 6/9 games hes played in, which is an achievement considering how bad a one day side we've been in the past two years.

Not sure hes a death bowler but hes got good control with the new ball. The One day equivalent of Hoggard?

It's still all up in the air, really. Paul Nixon seems to be the man in (temporary) possession and, IF he can put together a few scores over the next couple of weeks, then it's hard to see him missing out on a World Cup place.

I quite like key as a batsman. unlike most round here but he's no one day player, he was left out of the Kent's one day side a couple of years ago when he was going well in First Class.

I agree Lewis is one of our best, he won't get completey clobbered often, but he should be the seamer who fills the last place. He's probably first choice at the moment FFS!! Tremlett sohuld get a game though.
Shows how short in this dept England are.

England lack a quality hitter to open.

Englias selection in crisis.

How else do you explain Mal Loye's place in the provisional squad? Are we to believe that they will pick an untried player for the World Cup? He's unlucky to have missed out on the ODI side in the past, but his time has surely passed.

My 17 man squad.

James Anderson, Ian Bell, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Jamie Dalrymple, Andrew Flintoff, Ed Joyce, Jon Lewis, Mal Loye, Paul Nixon, Monty Panesar, Kevin Pietersen, Matt Prior, Chris Read, Owais Shah, Chris Tremlett, Michael Vaughan

I would loose a batter and a keeper from this lot.

Probably Read as the keeper, and the batter is a toss up between Bell and Strauss.

Really is a poor 30 man squad to be honest.
