There have been 3 instances in Tests where more than more than one century stand occurred for the same wicket i.e. someone retired and the replacement added a further 100. What 3 instances?

Karthik Jaffer David and Tendulkar ....Does that count as two ?

vs the Bangers

175 and 106 and 127

I've prepared for the worst case scenario ...but it could be even worse than that

This would have happened in the recent test between India & Bangladesh when the first wicket fell at 408. Three century partnerships for the 1st wicket.

Just ruled out Julien/Sobers/Boyce at Lords 1973.

Sobers retired at the lunch break with his score at 132 after putting on about 150 with Julien. Boyce replaced him and that pair added another 78 before Julien was dismissed for 121, at which point Sobers resumed his innings.

The missing one involves someone who would not surprise anyone about retiring "hurt", and it might be a Zimmy allergy as well.

2nd game was when 5 of top 6 Paks got tons (poor old Faisal Iqbal only got 9 at no. 3). The 3rd game saw the first 4 Indians get tons. Minnow soup.

The fact that two Indians retired ILL suggests the minnow soup might have gone off a bit.

Wisden Cricket Monthly clearly didn't. Their take in the Nov 2001 edition was as follows:

"I-u-H declared himself 'dehydrated' upon reaching his hundred and promptly lumbered back, retired hurt, to his comfortable wicker chair in the dressing room."

LOL Smile

Nearly another:

In the 5th test of 1981/82 against England, Vengsarkar and Viswanath added 99 for the 2nd wicket before Vengsarkar retired hurt. Viswanath then added 300 odd with Yashpal Sharma for a combined 3rd wicket stand of 415 (which was the clayton's test record 3rd wicket stand at the time).
