At this stage it looks as if you can start to discount the West Indies - in addition to already discounting Ire and Bang (perhaps doing them a disservice bt ther you go) - which leaves 5 teams fighting for 4 places.

Aus and NZ look certain to nail 2 of those 4 places so interest in this S8 stage would seem to revolve around whether Eng can displace either SAf or SL.

My 2 teams...England & WI Frown

At least I will be able to actually enjoy the semi-finals as a neutral without the fear of the despondancy that follows the inevitable

Windies' chance of winning this World Cup are sinking faster than Fred's Pedalo

They will need to defeat two from SA/Eng/SL, which is a tall order. WI have a great record vs SA in WC cricket, but I feel SA will be too strong this time.

Oh dear, Jerome Taylor was replaced by the extra batsman Simmonds who was left stranded on 14

I thought that it was more than likely, that because AUS & NZ carry through 2 pts & play both minnows they would qualify - meaning that the remaining 2 places are between SL,SA,ENG,WI

England last results against those have been : -

SA 1-5
SL 0-5

Roll Eyes

You would say if all goes to form SA & SL will be joining NZ & AUS but World Cups seldom go to form, so who knows...

Coming into the last WC the Saffies had a great home record against WI, NZ and SL.

They promptly failed to beat all 3 and missed out on their place in the Super Six.

Also after the recent CB finals I don't think Aus would be any less concerned if they had to face Eng than either of SAf, NZ and SL.

You know a year a go I picked Eng as an off the wall pick to win the WC - and there is no concrete reason (yet) as to why they could not do that if the luck ran their way.

Yeh, but that's the SAffies you're talking about. With them it is form for them not to follow form Smile

Collymore is usually very accurate and consistent. Wonder if Lara is trying to get away with some Smith overs in the PP so that Colly can try and strangle NZ later and try and force some errors

I don't think he's got enough runs to try that trick. Windies need early wickets

I would have opened with Bravo, his strike rate in ODIs is quite impressive even if he is a bit expensive. They need early wickets!

I would guess they are regretting their decision to drop their best bowler, Taylor, in order to strengthen their batting.

Problem is Colly is not really a strike bowler; not a big wicket taker.

Maybe he wants Colly in tandem with Golden Arm Bravo

When first watching cricket in the 80's, I remember all those great England players of the 50's & 60's steaming about one abject performance after another...

Must be tough to be a Windian of the late 70's/80's vintage watching this team at times.

Marshall mistimes a slower ball and gets at mid-uff.
