Cooks getting bogged down here.. dropped twice now, needs to work some singles and rotate the strike a bit better .. had some luck this innings so needs to make it count

Rubbish - the ball has to be hitting the stumps without a doubt - not "close" - playing a shot or not. Problem is, many umpires seem to think the same as you too, but them aint the rules.

Pietersen was dropped and now you are whinging about an LBW decision which looked very close indeed.

I wasn't whinging about the decision, I haven't even seen it (some of us have to work for a living). I was taking an opposing view to the assumption that if you don't play a shot you deserve to be given out, even if it's "close" to hitting the stumps. I've seen that too many times.

When was Pietersen dropped? I can't remember it and nor can Cricinfo...

...very unlucky to be out, but then Cook is very lucky to be not out. Swings and roundabouts. I called not out as soon as I saw the Pietersen "lbw", but what's done is done. Good batsman make right of a wrong in their next innings.

Dropped catches, no-balls, wides, usual feast of rubbish that Pakistan are currently serving up. Its hard enough as it is on a decent wicket without giving the opposition additional chances.

Colly gets his 100. It's been a quality innings, plenty of great shots. I think he could do more than 'just do a job' for England.

What do you say about the decision to bat first? Didn't the pitch had a green cover and was a bit damp too?

305/3 suggest it was the correct decision. Also allows extra recovery time for Hoggard.

Yes. Thats true. England's bowlers might not have been able to capitalise.

Cook has a poor SR at the moment. I hope he plays more flowing shots like he did in India.

At 88/3 he had to be careful.

Pakistan really have themselves to blame for the the position they are in. Cook led a charmed life, dropped three times and the one time he really was caught, the finger didn't go up.

England really did well on the first day of this test and must consider themselves in an invulnerable position. Pakistan's pace attack without Asif really is limp, but will England's be any better? I reckon it will be. I can't imagine their catching can slide to those levels. Still, there have been instances where they have dropped as many, if not more. Interesting stage of the match.

Just remember the Lords test against SL and even the last test vs them! But they have had that share of bad luck with catching. Will they repeat them?

I might get to see a few highlights later, but from what i hear, Pakistan have dropped 5/6 catches and handed the initiative to England.

Decent stand for the 4th wicket.
220-ish?

It seems Strauss was taking notes at Edgebaston last year Smile

Cook and Collingwood have built a strong position - no doubt Bell will be given full licence to attack when he comes in...

Interestingly, Betfair have the draw as their favourite result - they don't have much faith in the Eng bowlers.

Interesting choice of words in the same sentence there -"Bell" and "Attack" Smile

The England tail looks hella long, so numbers 6-11 will have been very happy with that stand of 200+.
