Tubby got tons on debut against England, Pakistan, Saffies and Sri Lanka...and made a 94 on debut against India.

I think Strauss made debut centuries in his first three series against Nzzzz, the Windies and the Yarpies.

Meow is talking about centuries on debut tests not series!!

Anyway, England aren't out of danger as yet. They'd need 150-200 runs more to feel safe!

As i said before the match the pak bowling looks tooooo weak and as we saw Abdul Razaq was our main bowler hehe.
Anyhow if england managed to score 450 we are out of this game.....

and ya dun forget the drop chances and i guess Jonty Rhodes coaching made the fielders too sharp thats why they are diving in front of other fielders to take catches...

Big Grin

Waqas,

I don't think that the bowlers were bad! After intial 4-5 overs, Gul was very impressive! Sami was a bit erratic but whenever he hit target, he had batsmen in trouble! Kaneria was superb, as usual!

So just criticize your fielders, not the bowlers.

I'm still not convinced that England are capable of taking 20 wickets.

Ya Chandan ur right bowlers were not bad but the problem we have is that Gul and Sami they both kind of bang the ball on the pitch bowlers not like hoggard..

Badluck Asif got injured other then him only Razzaq can get the ball to seam a bit..

Lets see what happens today if we can take our own catches cleanly we can still come back..

SMO any team can get 20 pakistani wickets even bangla managed it Wink

Waqas,

Gul is a swing bowler--purely!! He did quite well yesterday.

Those who bowled well yesterday:

Gul
Razzaq
Kaneria

Those who bowled badly:

Sami

Those who should've had a longer bowl:

Afridi

So, overall Pakistan could say they had a good day apart from one thing - the catching.

Aye, I'm not particularly looking forward to the day's play. There's a crab in now, one to come in at 6, out of form bat at 7 and then the tail. Will probably be at it's best for batting today and we have no exciting batsmen left. Well done Cook and Colly though, cracking knock by Colly and very, very valuable knock by Cook - who did well to put his bad shots out of mind.

Without Rana, Akhtar and Asif the PAK bowling looks weak. As England showed today, they'll take this game easy.

Even with weak bowling they bowled fairly well except for first 10 overs. Catching was pathetic - even Kamran missed a dolly.

WTF wasn't Colly given out? He got a thick edge!
He and Cook were lucky lucky lads.

Further to my post on debut hundreds, yes "Tubby" is the overall record holder with 4 "debut" tons: 136 v. England at Headingley in 1989, 164 v. the Lankies at the Gabba also in 1989, 101 v. Pakistan at the MCG in 1990 (both made in the second innings) and 170 against the Saffies also at the MCG in 1993. This was in my reference book so I should have spotted it!

Strauss equalled Compton's & Barrington's (English) record by making three debut hundreds but did so in the same calendar year (2004):
112 v. NZ at Lord's
137 v. WI also at Lord's
126 v. SA at Port Elizabeth

Cook could potentially equal this feat if he scores a century against Australia at the Gabba this November. Many thanks to the Sheikh, Captain and Commrade for your input.

Centuries don't have to be against consecutive opponents, just 100 on first appearance. "Tubby" missed out against India.

Ah, j'apologise. I thought it was consecutive debut tons.

Np, the point I was trying to make was that Cook would, like Strauss, have made his debut hundreds in the same calendar year although, admittedly, Strauss did 3/3 whereas Cook (if he manages it) would only have achieved 3/4.

I think it's a travesty that Strauss didn't make it 4/4. At 60-odd* versus Bangla he must've thought about it. It was a good ball to get him out though.
