Should be a fascinating game seeing Pakistan's third string pacers taking on a second string County batting line up.

I can't wait. I shall be taking my kit tomorrow just in case I get a game.

My team for tomorrow :-

1) Faisal Iqbal
2) Taufeeq Umar
3) Salman Butt
4) Imran farhat
5) Younis Khan
6) Afridi
7) Rao ifthikar
8) Samiullah Naizi Khan
9) Mohammad Sami
10) Shahid Nazir
11) Arshad Khan

Test out Faisal Iqbal and Taufeeq Umar as openers.

Salman Butt and Imran Farhat will have to do something special (like maybe not drop a simple catch ? )

Have a bowl out between Samiullah and Sami for the spot opening the bowling with Gul.

Shahid Nazir and Rao are clearly just making up the numbers they wouldn't get into the Bangladesh team and even Woolmer sounds like he has realised he has made an awful error bringing Nazir on this trip.

Big Grin Man they are looking for any Pakistani cricketers currently playing club cricket in the UK! It's will be funny if Arshad Khan picks a 7 wicket haul here and then goes on to play the OT test match!

Now let's play cricket......

That's a tricky one because you would want to give Kamran as much rest as possible but then again you would also want him to get his game back after a poor performance at Lords!

Sultry English summer bothering Pakistan players

By Khalid Hussain

LONDON: When they left home earlier this summer to play almost two-and-a-half months of cricket in England, the Pakistan cricketers had hoped that they had left hot and humid weather behind.

But it seems that sultry conditions have chased them to England, a country that normally enjoys pleasant summers that borders on to mild winter for an average Pakistani used to high temperatures for the best part of the year.

However, this summer is different. With mercury soaring to 36 degrees centigrade and humidity also quite high, it seems like a July in Karachi rather than in London.

After an outing at sun-baked Lord’s Pakistan are now not looking forward to a four-day game against Northamptonshire in hot conditions.

Team manager Zaheer Abbas said that he was not surprised when half a dozen of Pakistan players requested to be rested for the match in Northampton that gets underway from today (Thursday). “It is very hot and you don’t really enjoy playing in these conditions,” Zaheer told ‘The News’ on Wednesday. “Some of the players had a tough time at Lord’s and want to rest for a few days before the next Test,” he added.

On the top of the list of players asking for rest are all-rounder Abdul Razzaq and skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq. Fast bowlers Mohammad Sami and Umar Gul might not play the side game.

After sending down 82 overs at Lord’s in a few marathon spells, leg-spinner Danish Kaneria is also set get some much-deserved rest.

Interestingly, Mohammad Yousuf, who had a long stay at the wicket in Pakistan’s first innings in the opening Test is all geared up for another outing. He scored 202 and 48 to save the match for Pakistan. “Yousuf has told us that he has no problems in playing in the four-day match.”

Zaheer has been advising the team management including skipper Inzamam to make changes in the Pakistan team according to the prevailing weather. “It’s hot and dry and in such conditions you should play more spinners. The wickets would turn quite a bit and conditions would suit slow bowlers more than pacers. In any case we don’t have many wicket-taking fast bowlers so we should better look for more spin options.”

Zaheer said he would vote for the inclusion of leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed and would also suggest the team management have a look at Arshad Khan, the tall off-spinner who is playing league cricket in England.

Arshad, 35, has just played nine Tests since making his debut against the West Indies at home town Peshawar in 1997. He has 32 Test wickets and last played a Test for Pakistan in 2005 against India at Bangalore.

Zaheer added that the addition of a off-spinner would add to Pakistan’s bowling strength which currently doesn’t look good enough to bowl England twice out in a Test. “Danish is bowling pretty well but as far as I am concerned Shahid Afridi is more of a stock bowler. What we need is another specialist spinner so we can attack from both ends.”

With the sun shining, Zaheer wants Pakistan to exploit hot and dry conditions to their advantage. And as far as he is concerned a spin-oriented attack is what the tourists need.

Probably. I doubt we'll play many of our first team though. Arshad should be perfect for our wicket.

I see Pakistan are giving their two joke bowlers in the squad (Rao Iftikhar and Shahid Nazir) a go...

It's OK. I see Northants are playing two joke seamers instead of a talented young spinner. Mainly the First Team though...

Both of these make very good ODU bowlers - not sure about their test credentail though Nazir 7-8 years ago was quite handy.

Disappointed not to see Taufiq Umar - he should get a run in side games to asses his form, should we need to drop one of the two fragile openers.

I would play Mushy in tests he'll score as much as Afridi with bat as well

I'm glad Anjum is getting smacked around the park as is Nasir. Both showing that they have absolutely no chance of making the line-up for the 2nd test.

Looks like we will have to put up with the rubbish that Sami delivers.

Would have been good to see Arafat given a go.

Would've liked to have seen Arafat. When I did see him he bowled pretty well, quite surprised at his lack of pace - thought he was express. He was useful at the death though, he should've been given a try....

Me touting Arshad on this pitch sounds silly considering - 6 overs for 30 but in the 2nd innings I expect him to be a handful.

Arafat cranks up the pace in ODIs. He knows that he's only got to run in for maximum 10 overs so he steams in...

That's when I did see him, maybe he was trying to take pace off the ball?

Pak - Ouch! 272/2. Peters never gets any runs BTW.

For all those who thought getting county wickets is easy, its not the case. Mushy should be given a chance to shine in tests. With the absence of any notable seamer, Paks only hope is to use Danish K and Mushy to get wickets.

Both Butt and Farhat out cheaply, begs the question why Taufeeq Umer wasn't given a go.
