And the unjustly ignored little genius, who should have been in both England tours (but probably had more fun dancing than he would have on tour) is off to a cracking start - 227 runs @ 113.5 in the County Championship so far.
Today, up against Warney snaring 5/45 off 15 overs, he remained undefeated on 107* in a team score of 203. What a legend.
Does anyone know how long is it since anyone scored 2000 runs in consecutive summers?

Seems the last English batsman to get 2000 runs in consecutive seasons was Geoff Boycott in 1970 and 1971. South African Jimmy Cook did it 3 seasons running 1989-91, at a similar age to Ramps today.

I have a 1991 Wisden & up to that point the players of the modern era (since 1969) to score 2,000 in a season more than once were:- G.A.Gooch (4) 1990, 1984, 1988, 1985 D.L.Amiss (3) 1984, 1976, 1978 S.J.Cook (3) 1991, 1990, 1989 G.A.Hick (3) 1988, 1990, 1986 G.M.Turner (3) 1973, 1970, 1981 G.Boycott (2) 1971, 1970 J.H.Edrich (2) 1969, 1971 M.W.Gatting (2) 1984, 1991 A.I.Kallicharran (2) 1984, 1982 Zaheer Abbas (2) 1976, 1981

Oops. Thanks for that, Wally - the ordering of the dates threw me I think.
Should have attributed the above quote to you as well - thanks again for the data. So, first time since 1985 if Ramps can pull it off.

He's a certainty. JGK has backed him.
Oh dear...

He showed improvement in the second half of his England career but frankly discussing Ramprakash for England is pointless. He's too old and never established himself despite a lot of chances. And there are plenty of current batsmen who have a much better claim to their Test places as they average over 40 in Test cricket which Ramprakash does not.
What he does for his county is immaterial, it was back when he played for England and it is now.
And for the record his last 10 innings for England in Tests produced 236 runs @ 23.60 so he was rightly dropped and it would be foolish to think the 'third coming' would suddenly see him score more than existing English batsmen. He could claim Strauss' place but then so could Shah and another couple of batsmen waiting in the wings.
Although I would find his absence from the Ashes squad more understandable if Udal and Nixon hadn't been given recalls in the last 15 months.

Ramps plays Lancashire this week. Looking for three tons in a row.
