Then they left him out on the NZ tour and brought him back against W&W in 1992. Then left him out for the subcontinent, brought him back for the Windies in 1994. Missed another NZ series in 1994, then brought back against Windies and RSA in 1995.

He let himself down, don't mistake me. Should have done better. And his more recent encounters with weak opposition (NZ, Zimboks) were very ordinary. But the selectors didn't exactly make an effort to let him ease into it.

I know. I have followed his international career very closely, ever since (aged 19) he scored 50 to help Middlesex to beat Worcs in a cup final. That's why I'm usually hard on the bloke. He disappointed us so many times, even worse than Hick.

Do Surrey have a single decent player aged under 35?

FFS. Feeble. Poor Ramps. Get him back into the England team, it'd be less frustrating.

He broke our hearts that day - even though the pitch had flattened out a lot by the time he batted. For a 19 year-old to play an innings of such maturity was staggering. I would have had him in the England side there and then.

Not a better player than G.A. Hick though.

No, he was never likely to get close to Hick's spectacular Test average of 31...

Ramps has now compiled 936 runs @ 104.00 so far this summer.

Andrew Strauss has scored 78 runs @ 15.60 for England in the same period.

But then - even though the windies aren't what they once were - they're probable still slightly more potent than any county attack...

County Player is only County Player. I have never had any other name on the forum and never will. I hope life is treating you all well. Things are all good here.

Id like to be as good as Michael. I will join the other forum soon and to keep a few people happy will use a different title. Thanks again filosofee for being a sane voice among several cynics who fail to realise that cricketers can also forum!

Ramps had his wicket splattered in best, fast-bowling fashion in last night's 20/20.

I saw that on the sports news, it's always good to see the stump end up a few metres behind the batsman. The same thing happened to the guy who got out before him too.
