Dodders was interviewed by ABC during the Perth Test and didn't sound positive about the future of the WACA.

They are fine for 3/4/5 days each year.
They only have cricket - no other tenants.
The big game are the Weazles and the Duckers.

Had a good chat with Glen Mitchell in the Qantas Club on Xmas day about the new stadium…seems the East Perth power station option could get the go ahead as they intend to combine it with a redevelopment of the river foreshore into a new entertainment area, linking into the Belmont Park redevelopment across the river.

That would be ace, as I only live 10 minutes away by train.

Not being physically from Perth (despite my stoopid name), I'd imagine age, amentities, ground size/shape, seating.

Cos Subiaco is the home of footy in WA. The Force has been looking at playing at the venue but nothing has been finalised yet...

And that's just the local spectators, not the ground itself.

Subi Oval has double the capacity and now has lights so the WACA cant get AFL games

WAFL only gets about 1500 people (on a good day) so it's a waste of time trying for that

Super 14 is played at the same time as the end of the cricket season so there is a clash ...plus it's a carp ground to watch any sport other than cricket (or AFL)...also the Force sold more season tickets than the WACA capacity

Perth Glory (festiveball) season clashes with the cricket season

They did host some baseball games when there was a National Baseball League ...

They were the home ground of the Western Reds who got killed in the Super League war ..

Farnesy and Stevie Nicks had a concert at the WACA last year ...

Kiss had a concert at the WACA recently too (within the last 2.5 years)

The future could be that the WACA is sold off (the land would be worth a fortune and is 'owned'* by the Association) and Shield games played at a new smallish venue (perhaps co-tentanted with a WAFL club) and the Tests and ODIs played at the new mega stadium.

The upkeep on the old stands could become prohibitive, even tho the WACA is currently in a good financial situation.

* they actually have a 999 year peppercorn lease

The Invers was built in 1970 for the first WACA Test ....and it's basically a concrete block with plastic seats on it

The Prindi and the Fot Bacchus were built in the mid/late 80's

All the "Old" stands were bulldozed....

Aye, shocking.

Warnie told me never to do that.

The abovementioned musical abomination also played VFL Park, Melbourne, which is now an architectural abomination of a housing development.

Kiss of death????

WATERMELON: Thick hide, soft flesh, negligible taste, 99% water and you spit out the rest.

No idea why I felt that needed mentioning....
