I'll stick with the bet I had last year, the WI.

It'll be Aus still in my book. Too strong a side, and the blips where at the end of a high level of performance over their summer.

Posted this in the OZ Wc thread:

"Symonds loss is a big blow for Oz because the balance of the team has been upset. This is on top of a McGrath who is no longer the threat he was. Their fallability has been shown by being beaten by abject no-hopers England 3 times on the trot. This demonstration will be an important psychological lift to the other teams, perhaps WI in particular who have beaten them once recently in a tight match.

Oz still have huge potential and in Ponting they have a potential matchwinner every time.

But their recent dip which is due to permanent/semi-permanent losses means this WC is far more open than many that have gone before (IMHO).

Oz are now seen to be very beatable"

Added to that, Sri Lanka look very strong and are firing well ATM.

SA can play very well but still have the capacity to blow it. Batting can be fragile and bowling is a little one dimensional. Ntini's form away from home is nowhere near his home form.

India simply seem to be in a chaotic state on the field ATM. Little consistency in either batting or bowling. The much vaunted batting line-up continues to disappoint. And they seem to choke badly when the pressure is on.

Pakistan, as was said above are unlikely to be able to string enough decent performances together to seriously challange.

NZZzzzzzzz just don't seem to be firing cohesively ATM although I suspect they will get their act together and present a difficult team to beat.

England....God Knows. Now instead of being likely to go out in the group stages, they may be the dark horse of the tourney. (They did reach the finals of the ICCCT in 2004 and nearly won it, have they rediscovered their ODI belief that got them there?) They seem to have a potent bowling attack now, but I still worry about the extras and the capacity to jettison the radar via the high-powered ejector seat. KP will win a game or 2 but fail in some others. The wickets will probably suit the nurdlers of Colly and Bell.

The wickets are something of an unkown quantity, many being newly laid.

If they play slow and a bit low SA may be disadvantaged on both batting and bowling fronts. Oz may struggle a bit more with their big strokeplayers who like pace. BLee's pace may be nullified and seen as tasty pies.

If the wickets are unsettled as a result of being newly laid then there may be a lot of gripping low-scoring matches.

I think ATM the WC is as wide open as it could be.

I'm not Welsh........Isn't it?

Home advantage, three times finalists and winners of the first two World Cups is hardly what I'd consider minnow - especially as they beat the aussies in the ICCCT only to lose to them in the final. I reckon they could surprise a few and beat Australia in the final

New Zealand have reached FOUR semis but never won a single one, I can't see that changing.

You can't rule out Australia, I'd like to but it is illogical. So England or should I say Collingwood hit form at the right time.

I think the wickets are a major concern. Many of the wickets in the last WC to be held in England did too much for the seam bowlers, and quite a few of the early matches in particular were low-scoring affairs with little to commend them.

I'm tipping a Sri lanka vs Saffie final, with the Lankans to take the WC. Australia IMO will makes the semis but be knocked out.

The wickets are new and i doubt they will last 100 overs i suspect batting second will be difficult and the sri lanka, india & pakistan could use this to their advantage.
Sri lanka will prove hard to beat they will dry up every run in the20-40 over part of the game
Bandara will be the man to watch.
Pakistan struggling with their bowling attack so if they have a good run semis.
Indian media haveleft their players with a chance they obviously lack confidence lucky if they reach the semis

So as you can see india n pakistan have blown a good chance

New Zealand...no chance apart from bond n mayb vetori their bowling is too weak and batting not inconsistent

West India have a great chace they play welll at home and players like dwayne bravo socre freely when runs dry up in the 20-40 part. good yorkers at the end too

South Africa sorry no chance. wins against india australia and pakistan all at home....pollock will carry them to the semis prob then get knocked out

Austraia will be pissed of after the two series defeats and they gona come bk strong. No doubt they will b in the final

England good players in bell collingwood KP plunkett monty...but captainacy has ruined their team...marcus was a big blow then strauss is upset after his 3-0 win he was removed as capain. Flintoff keeps being sent the manager "ull neva b as good as vaughen" MAYB SEMIS DOUBT IT

so
Australia
Sri Lanka
West Indies
& one of these
India/ Pakistan/ England will be in the semis

Aussies to win it

The way Kolkata match was started, SL could have had a 2-2 split.

This series tells nothing to me since Vaas and Murali were absent from Lankan team. However, I haven't given India any chance of reaching the semis before but right now I feel that they do have a chance. In fact the super 8 is wide open at this moment. The group match between India and Lanka is very important in the final count.

Will there be bonus point(s) in a match this year or just the win/loss/NR?
