I am watching the U19 games on sky sports and this bacca has great potential. He clocked 88.7mph today, many in the Indian senior squad will nevr bowl with such pace.

Tall, strong, quick and has a great degree of variation.

Surely he must be one for the future for India.

I was thinking the same thing myself whilst i was watching it. Surely a 90mph and beyond bowler for the future, very promising indeed.

Immense promise. Pace, aggression and wonderful control. Add to that long black hair and animated celebration, you have a star.

He should become a genuine 90+ man for India. 18 or 19 now, bowling at 140 k+ is very very impressive.

He should be fast streamed.

His names Ishant Sharma and he's 17 years old. Yes he does look exiting ATM but lets not get carried away.

Such pace at 17?

Maybe an Indian Shoaib in the making. I doubt even the Pakistani boys who are U19 champs are that quick.

Hey little_master, Thanks for starting this thread. Wasn't aware of Ishant until I saw this thread.

Just saw his profile on Cricinfo

-----------------------------------
Profile: Tall fast bowlers have been a rarity in Indian cricket. Ishant Sharma, 6'4" and still growing, touches the 130kph mark consistently and also possesses a sharp and deceptive bouncer delivered from a high-arm action that leaves batsmen on their toes. He started to play serious cricket at 14, rose quickly through the ranks and played Ranji Trophy one-dayers for Delhi this season, and a Deodhar Trophy game as well. His relatively frail physique is a worry but if he is looked after, he could well scale the heights.
----------------------
He is 6'4" !!!???

When I saw his bowling analysis for the 2nd OD vs Eng U-19, I thought he is a bowler worth keeping an eye on, along with YoMahesh. But don't get carried away.

Pathan was supposed to be of immense talent when he started, even if he wasn't 6'4". He had impressed even Imran Khan. But how quickly he declined!!!Frown

Yea that is very good! IIRC AKhtar Ayub's fastest ball in the under 19 WC was clocked at 88 mph! So if Itshan can consistently bowl around 87-88 then he is surely one for the future!

Now let's play cricket......

Don't increase your expectations too much, fcxx. 87-88 mph consistently is a bit too much of an ask!!

Big Grin

So just spare these youngsters!! Media unnecessarily hyped up VRV that he was the fastest bowler in the country and the future and what not! What a let down he was!!

I hope media spares these youngsters!

Like I said before, yes he does look extremely exciting but lets not get carried away.

He's very young and at this point of his career he should just be allowed to bowl. Also lets not forget he's still growing physically. So any ideas of putting on muscle should be dispeled.

A stint at the MRF Pace Academy wouldn't hurt.

Ishan Sharma should play at this level and in the Ranji Trophy for at least two more years with ample international exposure before he can be inducted. At 6'4" he's probably reached his max height and can now find his own signature. Important is; he should stay away from the press and all those well-wishing experts. The MRF pace academy under Lillee is the right place to give him the polish he still requires.

Why did you want to be reminded of Waqar though?

Errr, perhaps because Waqar was one of the outstanding bowlers of his generation....

I hope for cricket's sake that he is the one India have long searched for. I was very impressed, and I have a good eye for talent.

All the more reason that he shouldn't be rushed to international cricket!

Yes you really have.

He has done quite admirably in his first FC season and has taken 29 wickets at 20.10 in 6 matches played mostly on the flat deck of Kotla.

Most wickets in Ranji 2006-07

At the moment he is playing U-19 in NZ, but unfortunately I'm unable find any news of that tour.

Isnt that what everyone was saying about Munaf Patel at the same age? These days, Munaf is a carthorse who struggles to clock 130 kph. I still think Munaf is a good young bowler, but I think he needs to work a lot harder to make the most of his talent.

Sharma will have to keep working extremely hard and not get seduced by the rewards of becoming a top Indian Cricketer.

I don't think Munaf played U-19, EVER.
