Sehwag was much better than Ganguly in tests. A few years ago I would have said Sehwag was the best opener in the world, even better than Hayden.

Sehwag's career has been bbased on risks. The number of times he gets dropeed or the ball falling short of fielder is quite unbelievable. He is a better version of Afridi more like.

No, he will soon be back on flat Indian wickets.

sehwag has got test hundreds all over the world - england, west indies, australia, pakistan, south africa and averages more away from home...but yeah he's an indian batsman so he must be a FTB.

from his debut ton in SA until the pak tour early 2006 his record has been phenomenal - more so when you consider he's been a makeshift opener when dravid, laxman and tendulkar couldnt take up the challenge. he was bound to go through a lean phase. unlike ganguly who was found out against the short ball, sehwag actually gifts away his wicket by flashing outside off stump. having said that i wouldnt like him to curb his natural instincts too much as thats what makes him a special player imo

he will probably level out to a late 40s average in the way smith and gilchrist have.

normally sehwag gets a big 100 in every series. he got one in the WI series, one in the pak series so this is the only really poor series. but the difference now, from a year or two ago, is that he isn't getting many starts. too many first over dismissals putting extra pressure on the declining middle order. next year is a big year for us - england away, pak at home and australia away. 3 teams he's done mostly well against

Sehwag's performance in this series as opener was third worst ever from an Indian opener in a series in which he opened the batting on at least five occasions. The details:

2) P Roy Vs Eng in '52: 4 tests, 7 innings, 54 runs, Ave: 7.71, Hs: 35, 0s: 5

3) Sehwag Vs SA in '06-'07: 3 tests, 5 innings, 49 runs, Ave: 9.80, Hs: 33, 0s: 1

4) C Sarwate Vs Aus in '47-'48: 5 tests, 9 innings, 97 runs, Ave: 10.77, Hs: 36, 0s: 2

5) G Gambhir Vs SL in '05-'06: 3 tests, 5 innings, 54 runs, Ave: 10.80, Hs: 30, 0s: 1

6) N Sidhu Vs Eng in '90: 3 tests, 5 innings, 56 runs, Ave: 11.20, Hs: 30, 0s: 1

7) R Shastri Vs SAin '92-'93: 3 tests, 5 innings, 59 runs, Ave: 11.80, Hs: 23, 0s: 0

Ironic that the first two on that list have the WR opening partnership and Sehwag was only a couple of runs short of beating that last year.

Sending Sehwag out to open the batting in the 2nd innings at Newlands was one of the stupidest decisions I've ever seen in my life. Not only is he completely out of form, his best score of the series (40) coming when batting at 7 in the 1st innings of the same game, but it's well known he is a pretty good bet to fail in the 2nd innings even when in the form of his life. His average in the 2nd innings is something like 20. A totally brainless decision and one that did no-one any good whatsoever. Actually, I lie - it did SA a world of good.

I'll back Sehwag to come back succesfully at number 6. Lets not forget, he is a middle order player at heart. Making Sehwag opener was one of the most ingenius decisions of the Wright/Ganguly era, but it appears that it has reached the end of its shelf life.

He's one of the most talented batsmen in India. Silly to write him off at this stage.

i posted on the match thread at the end of day 3 that shastri wanted sehwag to open but i disagreed then. dravid should have come up and held up at least one end and knowing that sehwag is still to come (capable of quick scoring) would have put some degree of pressure on SA. as you say, his 2nd innings record is abysmal anyway and he got a run a ball 40 in the first innings. brainless move

Sehwag has poor discipline and big attitude problem. If he conquers that then he can conquer his slump in form!

Allegedly likes spilling champagne and throwing cakes across visitor's dressing rooms.
No manners.
Get rid of him now and replace him with someone who drinks bubbly and eats cake.
Show some respect.

Nah.
Tressie's teetotal.
Sehwag needs to attend sessions, it might cure him from throwing cakes.
