I guess the month which Bradman, Sobers and Imran were born may be near the front. As it is currently July, and NZ's greatest player was born in July, I will do this month.

Astrologically speaking, those born with the sun in Leo have a basic need for recognition and to be in the spotlight. Their hand/eye coordination is said to be amongst the best of all the zodiac, so it's no surprise that they excel on the cricket field.

Well, you will be hard pressed to beat July.

Gavaskar
Richards
Zaheer
Border
Sobers
*Rice
Pollock
Hadlee
B. Taylor
Harbajan
Lillee

Bedser, Ntini are unlucky. But an opening attack of Lillee and Hadlee, supported by the Allrounders of Pollock, Rice and Sobers is pretty compelling.

Which month would that be? Sobers was born in July, Bradman in August, Imran in November.

You've inexcusably left out McCabe, and I'd say Bedser is a worthier first change than any you have therein.

Although Pollock is so often under-estimated.
perhaps it's Taylor who should go.

Charles Macartney might also take his place in this side, Matt.

Most have the present England side must have been born when the Moon was rising in Uranus, then! Eek

Actually, if I go with the tradtional 6 batsmen, then maybe the team should be:

Richards
Gavaskar
Zaheer
McCabe
Border
Sobers
Hadlee
Taylor
Lillee
Harbajan
Bedser

I thought the two allrounders of Pollock and Rice, might provide more batting and bowling than MacCabe and Bedser.

November would be good for their numbers 6-8 being cracking all-rounders:

Botham
Gilchrist
Imran

Indeed, Allan - mostly occuring under the sign of Capricorn: the goat.

Surely, a batting order of

Imran
Gilchrist
Botham is more intuitive.

If you want but Botham was utterly rubbish at number 8, why would I put him there? Imran was at his best at 6 I suppose, the only reason he isn't at 7 is because Gilchrist is so good there.

Matt,

When I played a Best XI's game with my Grandfather, I noticed that he's left out a keeper.

He recovered manfully. "With the bowlers I've chosen, I mightn't need one," he said.

But with the bowlers you've chosen, you do.

April is useful, so far though haven't gotten all the places:

April
Stewart
Gower
SRT
A Flower
G Kirsten
.
.
M Marshall
.
McDermott
Muraliduran

I think that October and December are the best months though.

Surely New Zealand's great opener Charles 'Stewie' Dempster must boot langer out of the November XI?

And surely WG Grace must make the July XI?

Yeah, why not Leo. Whadda I know anyway. There's still a couple of places, NLWL could fit in at 5 or something.

Dempster
H Sutcliffe
Barrington
.
Langer
Imran
Gilchrist
Botham
M Hughes
Waqar
.

So who do you recommend for Number 4 and 11?

Victor Trumper and Bert Sutcliffe should be at 4 and 5. Forget Langer.

Still researching bowlers... will get back to you. I'd be surprised if we need Merv though.

Also, Keith Miller was born in November. Poor Both is now at no. 9.

I have made a glaring omission. Keith Miller can bat at 5.

Dempster
H Sutcliffe
Barrington
.
Langer
Miller
Imran
Gilchrist
Botham
M Hughes
Waqar

Seems like November's the month for the great all-rounders.
