Wasim Akram and Alan Davidson both born in June... indisputably the 2 greatest left arm quicks ever. Spooky.

What a bowling side that is, what an action packed middle order too.

Arrghh!! Couldn't edit it! Makes me look like a fool.

Not to worry. Something like this:

Dempster
H Sutcliffe
Barrington
B Sutcliffe
Trumper
Miller
Imran
Gilchrist
Botham
Larwood
Waqar

Nice. If your name is Sutcliffe and you want your son to be a great test cricketer, February is the date for a conception it seems. Big Grin

With respect to Bob Taylor, I have to think 'Jock' Cameron deserves the July wicketkeepers spot ahead of him.

Cameron was an option. A better bat definately.

No spinner in that November team.

Peterg, I accept your apology for your mistake. Trying to replace the keeper with a bowler.

Don't need one. There's a variety of pace, reverse swing, conventional swing, aggression, accuracy. Plenty there to knock a team over on a belter.

That is rubbish. Why have 5 seamers and no spinner. Not all matches are at Headingly in May.

Clearly, one of the two off-spinners needs to be replaced by a pace bowler. Any thoughts? Ted taking the new ball is a bit of a worry.

Final quarter.

OCTOBER
1. Bill PONSFORD
2. Matthew HAYDEN
3. Kumar SANGAKARRA
4. Jacques KALLIS
5. Neil HARVEY
6. George ULYETT
7. Wilfred RHODES
8. Richie BENAUD
9. Ray LINDWALL
10. John SNOW
11. Courtney WALSH

DECEMBER
1. Jack HOBBS
2. HANIF Mohammad
3. Rohan KANHAI
4. Peter MAY
5. Doug WALTERS
6. Aubrey FAULKNER
7. Les AMES
8. SAQLAIN Mushtaq
9. Bill O'REILLY
10. Joel GARNER
11. Clarrie GRIMMETT

One Kevin Douglas Walters to open the bowling... bit of a worry. Has to be someone who could replace Saqlain, but I can't find them.

In the September side: Mike Procter would be the 3rd fast bowler if you could bear to ditch one of the spinners. Alternatively he could bat at 6, but that would be brave.

I think July would be the favourites in most circumstances - not a weak link in the side. I'd have Bob Taylor though.

Yeah, Flintoff would be good. And Tate for Prasanna in the other team. Cheers Wal.

Any thoughts on Kelly v Duckworth? Not that I think you saw them play Wink but I don't know a lot about them. Was one thought to be considerably better than the other?

And I imagine no-one outside Queensland rates Healy equal to Knott...

Good stuff My Name is Luca and Leo.

A few extra suggestions.

January: Keeepr = Strudwick

February: Keeper = Tallon

March: Tom Hayward an automatic choice as opener

May: I'd have Freeman and Verity as the spinners, Tate and Ferris as seamers. Farrimond and Blackham were also born in May - obviously a month for great keepers.

August: Tom Richardson is first choice quickie for this month.

September: Either Constantine or George Hirst instead of Astle. Bert Oldfield as keeper.

October: Merchant should fit in here somewhere. It would be nice to find room for Bart King but I can't see how.

November: All that batting isn't needed so i'd have CTB Turner for Miller.

I like the idea of a Kelly v Duckworth thread. Smile

Duckworth is regarded by many as England's finest ever keeper - great both standing up and back. Evans and Knott would be the others in the usual shortlist.

My father rated Hugh Farrimond of Lancashire as about equal to Duckworth. He thought Duckworth was way ahead of Evans and slightly better than Knott.

Kelly (not a contemporary of Duckworth BTW) has nothing like the same standing. He was a respected keeper and kept well to some very good fast bowling (presumably from the likes of Cotter and Jones). He had a reputation for spilling too many chances however and is someway down the list of Aussie greats.

Other suggestions for the list:

Arthur Shrewsbury would get an openers spot ahead of Kirsten or Stewart. CB Fry maybe as well.

A bit of juggling with the order might get Hazare in March instead of Strauss.

Davidson should fit in somewhere in July and Sydney Smith in January.

I notice Taibu and Deryck Murray were also born in May - an amazing month for keepers.
