A natural/manmade disaster?

Forgive me this is a result of a drunk convo with MrJen.

What would you do if when you went to your supermarket/shops there was no food at all on the selves (due to fuel prices or something)

Would you and your family be able to survive?

*stocks up on shotguns and canned food*

Seeing as there is just me to my family then I would have to say yes.

A more difficult scenario for me would be if the internet failed for some reason and everything else was fine. Would be stuffed for work

if there was no food at all on the shelves it would depend entirely on how long this situation continued - obviously we could manage for a limited time on what we have in our cupboards/freezer but I dont keep chickens, dont grow vegetables and am therefore not self sufficient - with advance warning we could dig up the garden and plant veges but it would be sometime before we would harvest anything we could eat so therefore I think the length of time we could survive would be short lived

We have 9 chickens, so we'd have plenty of eggs. I'd barter with people in the village for a rooster and then let the chickens breed so I'd eventually have chicken as well as the eggs.

There are 11 sheep grazing in the front field. They're not mine, but I do have a gun, so they'd be mine then xD
I'm not keen on lamb, so maybe I could trade them for some cows from the farmer down the road. Beef = <3

So I'd have chicken, eggs and lamb (or beef, if 11 sheep = two cows and a bull... don't know if they would, but it's worth a try)
I'd hope for the cows as then I'd have milk too and butter.

We have tomatoes, lettuce , Curly Kale, Potatoes, Aubergines and Red Peppers growing in the garden/green house.

I just need someone who can bake bread from scratch and farm the necessary ingredients for it and I'm set. Can't survive without my bread o_o

I'm actually in the process of digging up a bit my garden to plant veg Aloo! Couldnt do the chicken thing though.

I reckon if it was 'do or die' I could do it - me granny used to keep chickens and we used to go round and collect the eggs - also Ive seen them being plucked etc in readyness for the dinner - not so sure I could do the cannibalism bit tho
