If ever there was a depressing unit of time, it would be the 'year'.
A year: The period of time during which Earth completes a single revolution around the sun, consisting of 365 days, 5 hours, 49 minutes, and 12 seconds of mean solar time. In the Gregorian calendar the year begins on January 1 and ends on December 31 and is divided into 12 months, 52 weeks, and 365 or 366 days. Days are good. Weeks are fine. Months are okay. But years! All they do is remind us how old we are getting. They also remind us just how fast time passes us by. Hell, I prefer decades to years. At least with decades they take a while to come around. With years we are constantly being reminded: “Oh hey, it’s me again, ‘The Year’. I just wanted to stop by and remind you that time is still passing you by. See you again soon!” We should petition to demolish the year. Perhaps we could approach NASA to try and slow down the revolution cycle of the planet using thrusters; akin to what Superman did, when he reversed time by spinning the planet backwards.
